DJ Short original Blueberry F5

I’ve been searching for years to find the Blueberry I knew and loved from the 90’s. Ive tried clones from people, I’ve tried Dutch Passion, DJ Short, and every cross you can imagine. Nothing has satisfied the void. I recently stumbled onto these and to me it sounded like the Blueberry has been reworked again but this time with the original Blueberry parents. I couldn’t find any first hand information on these particular beans. I’m sure I can’t be the only one out there who misses that old Blueberry so I figured I’d start a journal and take some blueberry lovers along for the ride. Seeds were just received and cracked. I will post updates as we go.

It says both of the parents are f4. Seems like hes continuing to work the "new" line to me
Do you not agree it’s worded in a way that sounds like it’s an F5 of the original Blueberry tho? I have worries of this being the case but I hope not. I did see that JD started this project in 2015 but the thread didn’t finish. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Interested to see how they turn out. I have Matt Riot's Blue Bonnet F2s (so basically an F5 but bred in a different direction toward blueberry muffin terps), Riotberry V3/4 (M.O.B. X Blue Bonnet) and Bubbleberry V2 (Indiana Bubblegum cut X Blue Bonnet) that are all going to get a run as soon as I can work them in. Also some old Mt. Hood Huckleberry f1s and f2s from Dynasty. Blueberry is one of my all time favorites and I really want to find one or two exemplary ones to keep.

I had this pheno up until about a month ago. She was on the sweeter berry side. The one I really liked smelled like afghani up close but from a distance smelled like earthy berries. I was happy to have this pheno because it was the closest I could get to that old one.

I saw DJ Short had breeder packs of something like 15 or 20 seeds apiece of various selections from his old lines and a few different phenos of the BB. I saw them a few places but the only one I can remember off the top of my head is DCSE.

Hes claimed to have gotten long lost cuts back, but people claim alot of things when money is on the line. I would say there is probably a reason that second generation seeds gives out djs blueberry as freebies on their key lime chem (I dont think it sells nearly as fast as dj pumps it out because of all the internet hype. You never know until you try)

10 of 13 seeds have sprouted. I soaked seeds in a small cup of spring water. After around 24 hours, all had sunk but 3. Eventually they did sink, however they never cracked. Once seeds had a visible taproot they were moved to damp sheet of chemical free paper towel. The paper towel was then placed in a ziplock snack bag for approximately 48 hours at 75 degrees. All seedlings were next planted into solo cups filled with coco and perlite. The cups were covered with plastic wrap and cups were moved under a T5. All 10 that were planted sprouted within 24 hours, plastic wrap has been removed and they have all stabilized.

@ObieTrichs how did they turn out? Would love to see the progress/results of this grow!
We’re still in veg. I’ll post some update photos. Just kind of boring until they at least start flowering. I screwed up and lost one that was a little too dry when the capacitor on my AC unit went out but the rest are looking really nice. I started a few Flo too and will report on those if I get at least one female. There are only a couple of them tho.

I Veg my plants for a couple months and have a perpetual cycle going so only 4 plants start flowering per week. The first of the females start flowering this week. Nothing too exciting to report yet but in a few weeks I’ll start posting photos of the flowering plants and and will likely be able to tell by aroma if they are anything close to what I grew in the 90’s. Being that these are F5’s there shouldn’t be as much variation as what there was when I found my keeper back then.

I've ran Dj's BB a couple times over the years and have had nothing but bad luck. The plants are beautiful with purple streaking but the buds have ZERO BB smell more of a hash smell some a little sweet but far from the BB i remember. They also throw tons of nanners so id watch out for that. I'm a huge BB fan so to say i was disappointed would be an understatement.

I don't like bashing breeders or talking crap but honestly DJ should make it clear to his customers that his BB is not the same as it used to be as I've heard he lost the original parents. If you're the king of Blueberry and none of the phones smell like BB or any kind of berry you should be ashamed.

his prices are way too high for false advertising. Believe me i'd pay $500 for a pack of his real BB from back in the day.
I couldn’t agree more and that’s exactly why I’m doing this review. Regardless of the results it will go up on every forum I am a member of. I’ve been searching for something even remotely close to the blueberry I had in the 90’s. I was lucky enough to find a clone that I pictured above but that has since been lost. Here’s why I’m doing this. It was well known that the parents were changed, however recently he ditched some of the old strains, and created some new ones. He has a strain called new berry which would lead people to believe that new berry is the strain he has been trying to pass off as blueberry. He then has this one labeled as original blueberry F5 which would lead people to believe that he either found a clone to breed with his male, used the old Dutch Passion line to rework the line, or possibly even recreated it with new parents. I started 3 of the 5 females I ended up with on flower tonight and won’t give an opinion until I start to smell the aroma. I won’t pass complete judgement until the final product has been harvested and cured but if this isn’t the “original blueberry” it will be well known and spread everywhere. DJ made a name for himself and some of the new strains look great. There’s absolutely no reason to have a new berry and an original blueberry if that’s not truly what they are. In my opinion if he is still trying to pass off a new creation as an “original” he is ripping people off and people deserve to know it. Sure, some people that have never experienced the old blueberry may not know any different but that still doesn’t make it right. I too grew out some of the more recent packs and I was extremely unhappy. I hope this is truly a blueberry muffin tasting work of art and if that’s the case he will be praised for resurrecting this legendary strain but If it’s more of the same I will be letting everyone know he is scamming people. I don’t want this to be the case and I truly hope he’s making it right. Only time will tell.

people stopped buying his BB once the word got out that it didn't carry the BB terps. Dj was forced to create a couple "new" BB lines hoping to entice the die hard BB fans.....only to grow them out and be disappointed again. I hope someone proves me wrong.

Im running some of Calco's BB syrup right now that have some crazy BB aromas.....also i popped 2 packs of LemonHokos BB bx3 with hopes to cross back to my BB syrup and start a good BB line. I have 2 packs of AK Bean Brains 'BB muffin x Vintage BB', 2 packs of Mosca's "OTM", and a pack of Humboldt seeds 'BB muffin" to pop after this current run. I'm serious about BB haha!
