I've seen the RooR diffuser marbles and people just dumping little marbles in their bongs. does this work, at the moment i don't own a bong so can someone try it and report on if it works? seems like a guy could run down to the aquarium store and buy in bulk some glass beads like those roor ones or even use actuall glass beads with holes in them, for more diffusion. this would be an awsome cheap diffuser as well as adding weight to the bottom of a bongbongsmilie

Here's the RooR ones

and homemade (from the coolest guy on youtube smellchecker 13 ,check out some of his homade bongs their awsome)

seems strange to me.

I'd go for a regular diffused downstem. I guess it would work, but it seems overcomplicated

I must be dumb as hell but I do not understand I guess I will have to sleep on it or something
the point is that the large bubbles get broken up while passing through the beads, making smaller bubbles. more smaller bubbles means more surface area which translates to better filtration

in theory right? From what I have heard the best thing a diffuser does is change the sound of the bong. As long as you aren't skimping on water there won't be that much of a difference in filtration.

that's also true. I've always felt that the purpose of the water was really to catch the ash and larger particles that hurt to inhale.

however, smaller bubbles WILL ensure cooler smoke in the same amount of water, because there's a much more efficient medium for heat exchange.

no a diffuser changes the filtration making the smoke smoother

so anyone tried this yet? if you're going to do it make sure you do like smellchecker13 and put the marbles about an inch above the waterline, or else you wont get as good of diffusion.

Not trying necromancy, just didn't want to repeat a thread that already exists...

If using glass beads, make sure they are of known material and origin, some chinese glass beads, and those made in countries not known for well made items may contain lead or other harmful chemicals (same goes for glass pieces as well).

One can easily get good small glass beads at craft and hobby stores, aquarium stores will typically charge more, but you could also theoretically use coarse aquarium stone for the same purpose. I make an insert to sit on top my ice catch to prevent splash up, and the bottom is filled with a mix of little tubular glass beads and aquarium stone. It makes the hits much smoother, however it does add a little pressure to the draw. I also do not recommend this for use with a hash hitter, as the vapor from the hash will collect and form sticky foam bubbles blocking up the passage ways. It is also almost better to use a standard non-diffused stem if you do this, it inserts much easier.

Also helps keep my bong setting flat even with a precooler and ash catcher on it.
