Do splitters drop performance?

No it doesn't change the bulb any. It's just like if you have a fixture in a bathroom with 4 bulbs.

You can't drop performance just from splitting it. Only way performance is going to be reduced is if you don't have the power to support that many bulbs.

Im a licensed Electrician and i agree 100% with giggles.. it wont drop performance at all unless you dont have the amp capacity to power that many bulbs or a bad breaker.. all have to do with issues with power source not a splitter

i have 20 splitters on 3 (5) socket bathroom fixtures and have a total of 50 cfl bulbs and my blue dragon plant is 3 feet tall just switched her to flowering(12/12) yesterday so im giddy with excitement

I just ordered 4 of them 1/4 splitters of ebay.
how much?

Also - what are your guys' opinions on the comparison of say, 3 42w cfls and 1 125w cfl bulb? obviously you could move the 3 bulbs around more, but looking at prices it may be cheaper to go with fewer, higher wattage bulbs

I'd go with the smaller wattage bulbs as you tend to lose lumen output on the bigger ones, the best cfl I've found is the 5000k 23w. It provides the best lumen and kelvin output.
