Do these look right?

This is my first indoor soil grow. Do these buds look right? They don't seem very compact. It is Northern Light. I haven't finished trimming it yet. It has been drying for about three days. Does drying and curing enhance the buzz or just the smoothness and flavour?

Thanks!

Any pistils that are still white will look far more acceptable when its fully dried. I did wonder myself after my first harvest I must admit. The strength of the effect does increase greatly when its properly dried, quick dry and early/damp testers have never produced the full effect for me personally. Once its dried fully though, the cure will only bring out flavour/smell - not any discernibly stronger effect (not in my limited experience anyway). Nice work by the way, get rid of those fan leaves and that's some nice looking bud! :peace:

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. One more question.

This strain is supposed to be high in THC and give you a mellow, "couch lock" type buzz. It's been drying for about a week now and when I smoke it it gives me a decent buzz but nothing spectacular. It also almost always gives me anxiety almost instantly. I can feel my brain "twitching" also if that makes any sense (probably the anxiety). Any weed I buy does not do this. Any ideas as to why? Is it just the strain or did it not grow properly? I am almost certain I harvested it at the right time.

Judging by the leaves, it looks like you nute burned the plant or had some other issues. This is why the buds aren't as big or compact as you'd like. I had similar issues my first grow, but it only affected my yield. The smoke was still fantastic after drying and curing for a few weeks!

If you're getting anxiety from smoking your bud, chances are it's more potent than the stuff you're used to. Also if you harvest early (mostly cloudy trichomes), you will get more of a head high rather than couch lock. This may also be contributing to the anxiety. If you don't like the high, try harvesting a week or two later when you have more amber trichomes next time. This will give you the couchlock high if you seek it, and will probably cut down on the anxiety as well. Also, you need to cure your buds in mason jars! Don't judge the bud after 3 days of drying. I guarantee you the smoke will only get better with time. I don't smoke my bud until it's been jarred for at least a month, and I've heard of people around here waiting even longer. Congrats on your first grow. Most people don't get any bud their first time.

Thanks for the comment Onegrow. Appreciated! This was my first indoor soil grow. I did a hydro grow before that. Just experimenting. I had trouble with the flowering stage in both my grows. My plants do great during veg but after switching to 12/12 for flower they become stunted and the fan leaves don't do well. I'm guessing it is due to nutes. Is there a soil I can use from seed to harvest which will provide the plants with all the nutes it will need and "just add water"?

As far as I know blooming nutes are needed for the flower stage this is what makes the buds big and juicy. I have read 1 to 2 tbls of blackstrap molasses per gallon of water is just as good as blooming nutes!

its a nice supplement .. but NOT a replacement.. still need a good bloom feed schedule.

As someone stated above.. you probably just harvested a little early ( which can make the buds less dense also) and you are feeling more of the "heady" effect then the couch locked one.. due to the trichomes maturity ... on your next grow try to get a little microscope 60-100 times from radio shack.. if that store is not available to you I can link you where to buy one online.. then you can inspect the trichomes and harvest exactly where you want the high to be.. clear/cloudy/amber trich ratio's determine the final effect almost as much as strain does :)

PS .. YOU DID GOOD.. for your first grow.. anything that is smokeable is a accomplishment .. it only gets better from here on out :)
