Does ACE seeds have the real Thai Stick?

They seperated males from females which was not often practiced in other growing areas so the buds were seedless and already better than average pot from that period. They also would (in some cases) apply hash oil that would of course increase the potency as well.
The reason you stopped seeing Thai stick is due to the end of the Vietnam war. There is not enough profit margin in shipping MJ from Thailand to America. The shipping was free during the Vietnam war since most was transported over on military transport.
Once the soldiers came home, Thai slowly dried up and was gone.

As far as the the other landraces, they are good but not anywhere near as potent as today's buds. They have the good sativa buzz that is sought after but if you are shooting for potency, it is a solid step down.
When I was in high school, there were a few "strains" of thai bud and they were potent for the day, with a unique flavor. There was thai stick, buddha thai, and chocolate thai that i remember.

One day when I had choc thai in my pocket a teacher stood behind me and said something smelled like choc tobacco :-)

I would love to grow the varieties I had back then. Don't know what they actuallu were, but back then skumnk, indica, humbolt, etc were the names used and each was very distinct. Somehwre down the line, the names imho stopped meaning much when evetryone talked about chronic, crippler, etc.

With the legitimacy of the industry, we are now truly growing and buying strains which as a chef type, is awesome.

I have to say GrowinDad and perhaps 1or two others really know what Thai was. If you ever smoked it it is the only subject wrt Thai that stood and always will stand at the front. I never smoked Thai that was dipped in anything -not opium not oil not hash. It was the incredible flavor: The minute someone open the bag of Thai anyone within 5 feet knew exactly what it was and it couldn’t have been anything else if someone lit up a joint of it everybody knew exactly what it was and there was no mistaking it for anything else it had the most incredible unique spicy sweet and savory taste better than anything I’ve ever smoked and you knew it was Thai and it couldn’t be anything else it was completely recognizable and unique sure the High was great but it was the taste of that stuff absolutely incredible no other pot taste like it and it always tasted that way that spice. Everyone wanted a hit and would choose it over all others.

I only smoked 2 Thai sticks in my life. Had to be in the late 70s. It was the best highs. To this day I can remember the high. I can't remember anything about the taste of the old varieties. I have tried many varieties over the years. That Thai stick was the best high ever in my opinion. I doubt that my Thai stick was treated I could be wrong but I think I paid 5$ a piece. The high produced fits of laughter .

I really don’t think much of the strains being sold out of dispensaries these days. Not that there aren’t some nice varieties but I’d be so thrilled to get a bag of Gold or Red Colombian regardless of how many seeds it had or some Thai - in fact I’d sure love to have some seeds of those strains. Seed banks I’ve used deliver seeds that don’t have the old genetics. I grew some Thai stick with seeds from a bank in Nederland and it flourished here in the hot desert (greenhouses it) and turned out some tasty get you up and motivated buds (8-10 feet tall) and it quite likely was a Thai strain but in spite of the taste it doesn’t taste like Thai my Nam Vet friends we’re getting from Asia. That stuff had the flavor of unmistakable Thai. Did they really eradicate the Thai strains during the drug wars? :-(. And yes the skunk Humbolt is another I’d love to have. I may have found a seed bank w something similar

Could the Thai Stick high be due to the fact that it was actually slowly cured (slow dry in a humid environment)? I'd imagine not everyone in the 70's knew about curing and just dried the buds. I grew ACE Panama, Golden Tiger, Malawi, Bangi Haze and none of them were any good a few weeks after harvest, it took a couple of months for me to start appreciating them at all.

You should check out Authentic Genetics with Todd McCormick and Mel Frank collections (Skunk #1 and Haze). They have some old school stuff but I have not personally ordered anything.
