Does anybody use 600 watt hps in a 3x3?

I'm just wondering if anybody uses a 600 watt hps in a 3x3 tent?

I have two 220 watt quantum boards in my 3x3 right now but they just don't put out enough heat to get the temps above 70. I have a 6 inch fan turned down as much as possible while still keeping negative pressure so theres not much more I can do with the ventilation.

Tomorrow I'm going to replace one of the boards with a 315 watt cmh to see if that helps but if it doesn't then my only option is to use a 600 watt magnetic ballast with a non air cooled hood.

My ambient temp stays around 60-64 and I dont want to run a heater all day so just seeing if 600 watts is even possible in such a small space.

600w/9sq ft= 66w per sq ft, dig it. Go for it, definitely wont need to keep the room as warm, just adjust exhaust.

Similar to 1000w HPS in a 4x4.
1000w/16sq ft= 62w per sq ft

Yea i figure its a little overkill but if i can keep it below 80 i think I should be ok.

Guess Ill pack up the led's until spring.

I'm just too lazy to switch my 600w in LED's for my 1000w HPS since I gotta move after this grow in March. 4x4 tent.
Dont wanna do all the work for 60 days in flower to pack it all up. Again. lol.

You're 600 isnt overkill imo, I wanna see these nugs in a few weeks! Happy growin bro :bigjoint:
Yea the shit us growers go through haha seems like theres always something to adjust.

I'll flip em to flower next week once i know the temps are stable so it will be a couple of months before theyre done. I'm growing glueberry og and critical orange punch which are both 10 week strains.

I use a 600w mh/hps in my 3x3. I have fresh air intake and my air cooled hood exhausted outside to keeps my temps acceptable. Check out my journal
Do you have a link to your journal?

I don't have an air cooled hood but I can buy one if needed. I also never had a need for an intake fan since passive has always been fine.

600w is perfect in a 3ft x 3ft, I have done this many times, there was a stage where growers would use a 600w hps in a wardrobe 2.5ft x 3ft
lots of hoods will let you set a narrow setting, so you can hang the hood higher in the room(22" above the canopy).
What were your ambient temps and were you using an air cooled hood?

I'm really hoping I dont have to get an air cooled hood since I dont plan on using hps after this. Last winter I was in a 5x5 with led and cmh but decided to get a 3x3 and 2.5x2.5 so I could get a perpetual grow going.

I have a 1000 in a 4x4 just, no reason you couldn’t run a 600 in a 3x3 especially if it’s cold, worst case scenario and it gets to hot you dim it back to 400 or increase exhaust speed maybe get one of those co2 shaker cans in the tents room to help your plants handle it if needed.
