i would go for soil if i were you, if youv never grown before. growing in soil is alot less complicated than trying to grow in a hydro set up, also growing in soil lets you get the hang of how the plant grows, its stages in growth, heights and what not to do ie over heating over watering...before you fork out for a hydroponics its good to know the basics.

All you really need is
- A grow space eg wardrobe or similar
- A light source 250w hps is a good start for 1 or 2 plants or cfls
- Ventilation, Usually a hole high up in the side of the wardrobe or cupboard with a fan pulling out hot air and a hole in the lower side of the cupboard pushing in cool, fresh air.
- a good sized pot with decent soil
- A few basic nutrients
- Finally a few seeds an a bit of luck

Thats just the basic needs to grow a plant, of course there are things like thermometers to keep an eye on temps, ph meters, EC meters and endless different nutes and bitsnpeices but that list is pretty much all i had to grow my first plant and i learnt heaps!

Good luck and ask as many questions as you can. Knowledge is power ;)

I went with the rubbermaid grow, it is working pretty good an only cost me 40$. It's a sticky in the grow room threads

Buy 2 totes, some weather stripping ,2 clamps, a PC fan, a 12 volt transformer, a hot knife, two cheap bathroom light fixtures, and an extension cord. Put the weather stripping on both totes, right where the lids would go on. This will create a seal. hang your light fixtures on the sides of the top tote. Strip the wires on the light fixtures and on the extension cord. Splice together. Cut an exhuast hole up top, take the PC fan and strip the wires. Strip the transformer, splice the cords together and plug it in. If it works, good, if it doesn't separate them and switch then test again. Attach PC fan to exhaust. Cut a hole on the bottom side of the tote for air to get in, if you want you can buy a small black 90 degree pipe and seal it to the intake hole. This will prevent any light leaks. After all that use the clamps on each side of the tote to secure it down and ensure a tight seal

Thank you Nusky. I seem to have most of this stuff. Again thanks. I can't wait to try this out and see what I can grow. Whats the ideal size tote? I have an 18 gallon one, but would a 37 be better?
