does yield affect potency

Many of my experiences are different to many growers on these forums. Due to the many factors required to grow a plant, one will experience many different differences even in otherwise similar conditions.
So are mine as I grow very differently, but I know why they are different and am aware why the majority experiences things the way they do. There are a few here that have grown long enough to have seen most things that occur

Plant maturity definitely plays a role in potency. Are you suggesting that a two week flowering plant Wil be more potent than a 6 week flowering plant?
.
I can show you photos of my main cola vs my side buds. Main cola is definitely bigger and more mature. Even though it is not the highest point of the plant as it has been trained.
"Bigger and more mature" not associated with potency.
Rev the natural flowers some of his plants for 26 weeks they must be straight fire!

hi just been sat in a stoned bubble thinking about growing and all the different things we all do and was wondering has anyone ever done a side by side one plant topped to death and another just left as nature intended grew them out and tested wether the topped one creating more yield makes the same potentcy as the other again just a thought before the bandwagon starts rolling lol
for the most part, aside from some very slight (almost unnoticeable) differences in %'s training a plant will not result in a drastically different plant (chemically speaking) because thats pretty much decided by the medium, nutrients and genetics more than any other factor.

this did get me thinking though as I DO believe breeding for traits such as yield and placing its importance over potency can easily lead to plants like Big Bud that produce huge yields of low potency bud and I saw a little cracked (super reputable hahaha) article that seems to support that.

I've grown them topped and not. Clones from the same mom grown under the same conditions will be just as potent whether topped or not. Yields however can greatly increased with topping and/or training with DWC ScroG being one of the best ways to maximize yields and growth rates.

Like RM3 mentioned earlier good light and extra UV can really add to potency.

Dying to fire up my new EYE Hortilux Ultra Ace EN 940W with it hanging off the new light rail but won't get the 8x4 tent here until buddy's plants are finished flowering in about 3 weeks. Got 4 girls that are ready to rock the flip. :)

The nutritional density question is related to genetics and soil minerals. There is good discussion of this topic at logical gardener, and icmag. High brix veg and fruit growers grow for both yield and quality there is no conflict.@420 mag there is a group using high brix techniques for cannabis.

Its def true that most produce is of less nutritional quality than earlier times. Unless you are purchasing from a grower with best practices and testing. Organic alone does not meet the criteria

uv a/b seems to make a difference to me. i'm convinced it makes more trichs, whether those trichs are any more potent or not, i don't know. i started running two 26 watt exotera reptile lights. they aren't the best in the world, but i've noticed that if i don't turn the plants under them for a few days the side closest to the bulbs have more trichs than the other side....

I might have to go check that out later!
while breeding for a bunch of goals at once is certainly admirable in theory, I have found after a number of years at this breeding thing that its nearly impossible to fix or enhance multiple traits at once unless you keep ridiculously detailed records and have access to tens of thousands of individuals within a population to select properly and maintain genetic variation through the generations. I just dont feel that any current breeder in the U.S has the ability to do any of this not since the days of Skunk #1, haze and whatnot.

Id like to believe this is true. I use the same UV as Rm however there is scant evidence of UV impacting thc.
I've been thinking of getting some UV lights myself but hear conflicting things about the difference. I don't use glass covered hoods with my HIDs so they probably get lots of UV anyways. Need some decent sunglasses when I work under those. Eyes go all fuzzy for a while after playing under the lights. :)

Have done it several times, not as hard as you might think

there are very few HID bulbs that any measurable UV

I don't think there is any UVB in hid (285-320nm)
I simply hung a t5ho.under my cob rig. No question those agromax bulbs are potent. But not sold on their effects.

My LEDs dip into the us and ir spectrum and going from hps to t5's and now LEDs I can see a difference in frost. It's the same strain both were in dirt both had been fed the same nutes and the one with us and ir had shown a seeable difference.

Ya I think I've noticed same. I think there is a dopier/stonier effect with UVB but I would not call it more potent.

I love the icey look but I don't necessarily equate it w quality. Do you?

Very true they very frosty but I'd have to get them tested one grown under my old hps hood and one under my led. Then see if the thc is more potent than the other.

Ultimately I have found, the most important factor is genetics.

Buy those expensive seeds, I do and I have never been disappointed. And when I say expensive, im talking 20 dollars a seed. Once that is a mother, its worth so much more!!!

This is an interesting comment you make.

I disagree with this. An immature plant has not reached maximum potency. It takes time for the flowers to actually reach their full potential.
If I am incorrect with my statement then by all means correct me, but from my current understanding, potency is related to maturity.
