Don't stare at the bulb? In the same way i don't have to wear sunglasses when the sun is out because i don't stare at the sun ;)

i don't stare at my lights and i notice a difference in my vision for a while, if i don't don shades.......goggles actually....lol.

That's generally what happens when you move into a bright area, your pupils contract.. and things then seem very dark when you move to a less lit area.

Even working closely under my 400W of CFL leaves me blind for a few seconds.

Especially if the lights are out in the hallway when I leave the room.
