Drilling Holes in Wood for Fans

Ok. I am charging my battery because it ran out of juice with this thing. The first thing I will say before I post my final review is that if you think you are going to get 2 cuts in 30 secs, you are wrong.

Ok. The first hole is done in a shade under 20 min. To be fair my battery wasn't charged so I kept recharging it every couple of minutes. The hole looks good, I am covered in sweat and saw dust (cabinet was a 1/2 inch thick). I reccomend doing a practice piece first as it takes some getting used to. More to come.

OK. So I am charging for hole 2.

The GOOD:
It works. Perfect cut the size of the fan. Don't think you are going to one-hand it with a cig hanging from your mouth. Get braced. Practice on another piece so you can figure it out. This includes how it is going to work with your drill settings. Also, wear goggles I got shit in my eye immediately. Sawdust and chunks are going to fly.

The BAD:
It states on the package this is for a drill press and specifically not to use it with a hand drill. Did that stop me? No, but I can see the reasoning now. This thing got away from me a few times. It is a huge drain on a cordless battery. Plugged drill would be much better.

The UGLY:
Damn I'm tired and I have another to go. Granted this would kill plywood, half in thick wood is a challenge and it takes time. Also crank the shit out of the hex tightening this thing. It got loose on me a few times and was swinging at its widest. Also crank your drill down tight cause it will jam and get loose. Probably messed up my Craftsman. Also I recommend drilling down. For me, it was impossible to lay the cabinet down, so i was on a knee drilling sideways. Avoid if possible.

All in all. It was $15 and got the job done. I will see how the rest goes. I would recomend trying the other bit in this post because it has 2 blades and this has one, which makes for lopsided depths on your circular cut. The downside I see of the 2 blad bit though is that you have 2 blades that can slide out of place.

I will let you know how the second hole goes. what a mess!
