Damn this is my first harvest and i've got plants vegging as well... but i cannot lose this grow as i only had 4 semi big plants (had to kill one).... they look top shelf still... and before cutting them they did as well smell wonderful... some were trimmed before hanging, some weren't (testing purposes on smell) and the first days drying upside down in the dark they didn't smell... but the smell started to come back... but today they are starting to dry up and smell like hay! Just a stale smell... im afraid it'll ruin it... top shelf looking bud with NO smell or a stale smell is NOT good.... they are upside down in the dark but no fan, i do fan them manually often, what is the secret to this... what should i do to get the smell back

EDIT: forgot to mention im on about day 4 of drying when i first get the HAY/stale SMELL... day3 was OK smell

Did u ever put them in a jar? Or just leave hanging? And bud dosent get the real dank smell till after a few months of a good cure, so if u just chopped, and ur expecting the buds to be All ready to sell, and stink good, ain't gonna happen, well I guess u could sell it

its really dry around here, if i want to preserve the smell i need to jar my buds pretty quick after cutting.

hit and miss affair with mold really :)

so i just chuck em in a wooden cabinet, no jars. in about 2 months they start smelling nicely.

lol.... yea you cannot just put them ina jar with the lid closed, even unclosed they won't get good airflow and mold will arise... i'll just wait it out... pretty sure the smell will come back, it's just a stale smell right now

i know what your saying. i out mine in paper bags after 3 days drying then into jars after 1 more day of paper bag. they arent crispy dry, but are deffinatly smokable dry (i wouldnt smoke it yet tho) and just try to slowly dry them in the jars allowing 2-3x10min air outs a day. it smells still, but not like i want it. im on day 5 of dry/cure.

And how mant times have u cured? My last harvest, I hang dryed for 4 days and put in a jar, and they smell like dank, just depends on ur areas weather, air. Humidity, all play a part in how long u hang b4 u jar. And if u wait to long, u won't ever get the smell back cause u over dryed, good luck

how were the plants grown, soil or hydro,I noticed that some plants grown in hydro dont carry as much smell as plants grown in soil organic plants smell the most, these are my personal obsevations.also were the plants ready to be harvested plants cut a week or so early will not carry a strong smell and genetics plays a huge role in the smell of the final product also but nothing brings out the true smell and taste like a good cure in jars

I just did the same...and the guy said earlier he fucks with moldy buds half the time by putting them straight to jar, in which i replied to you dumb fuck, anyways i had them hanging bout 5 or 6 days put them in jars and in a few hours already gaining some smell... thought it would go as planned, just had to make sure all was normal

the chlorophyl evaporating from the leaf material will give the hay/stale smell u encounter.just wait the dank smell dose return, patience is key.
