Drywall for new indoor grow room

I'm in the planning process for a new detached garage. It will have a grow room and I'm wondering if using the mildew and mold resistant drywall like the PURPLE drywall products. Found here http://askforpurple.com/products/

What are your thoughts? Would 'regular' drywall suffice or should I spend an extra few $$ and get the 'special' drywall?

I'd use 5/8" Type X, just 'cause it's heavier and better for sound control.

You could look at "green board" which is Moisture Resistant (aka MR Board).

I would not bother with the purple board. The impact resistance isn't going to pay you back

Since your garage is detached you don't need to run typeX drywall.
If your drywall is going to be subjected to moisture I'd recommend one of the paperless drywall products like Densglas gold.
It's nasty stuff to work with but will not mold or mildew.

Use white Masonite. If you need soundproofing or insulation use celutex(tape the seams before covering with the Masonite) as a backer. If you use drywall the chalk and paper absorb moisture and you will get mold which is not good for grow rooms!

I know and no matter how hot it is I always wear long-sleeved shirts with that stuff.
It's great stuff!
A perfect day out on the job: (drywall/lather/framer)
Chipping fireproofing onto my face, fuckin with thermafiber, and than hangin some densglas. That's the perfect day lmao.

I use a detached garage and I just insulated the walls and celing and then used http://insulfoam.com/basement-wall-insulation/

Try hanging densglass in a nor easter off a 180' boom...ya that garage is looking pretty cake right now. LOL! Good luck brother! these are always the best builds  You should also thro a heavy amount of babypowder on your forearms before you put the long sleeve on. It clogs the pores the fiberglass would get into otherwise. Trust in that move! Peace fam! Post pics!

All kidding aside, any gypsum board is a piece of cake lol.
I got into my trade in '92. I spent the whole first year in hanging 1/2" 4x8 sheets of durock. Exterior walls and lids up and down scaffolding. Needless to say, 25 yrs later, my back is fucking destroyed.

Are you sealing it up? Caulk the studs to the floor and get exterior door. It is better sealed than interior. Lots of good suggestions on wallboard. What protects the paper walls is paint. It creates a vapor barrier. Keeping the moisture from penetrating into the Sheetrock.

If I were to rebuild my room, I would still use the 5/8" drywall. But I would put the Panda plastic onto the drywall first, using a brush on or spray on glue. There is also an insulation that is made out of shredded denim that really helps on don't and doesn't cause itching. There is also an insulation that is similar to rockwool.

Wait, you would first laminate panda film to the drywall? Before you hang it? That would look pretty trippy once it's screwed off lol. And good luck fire taping :-D
Thermafiber is one of those stonewool insulations. Its basically rockwool with a water repellent and retardent added. I'm not 100% positive, but i'm pretty sure that rockwool insulation came first, and than was adapted for use in horticulture
