I have a wide 4 gallon pot im transplanting to today. its very wide. about 8 to 10 inches high, about a foot or a foot and 1/3rd long. I'm LSTing as soon as i transplant and wanted to plant it one the side of the pot. not in the middle. for two reasons.

1. Its just easier for me to LST this way.
2. the pot its in now, 6 by 7 inches, was a bad thing because not 3 days after i transplanted into it, the damned roots went straight out of the drainage hole. Im thinking roots grow down, then out. so by doing this i wont have this problem.

Bad idea for any reason? I'm trying to be a little cautious, as this is my second attempt at growing...first att. failed with flying colors.

Thanks

I've grown many plants besides MJ, and I can't see that this is going to be helpful.

1. The edges of the pot dry out first

2. For the plant to flourish, the roots should have the path of least resistance.

By the way, I use that landscaping cloth in my containers so the roots never grow out, and it keeps the soil from leaking out.

If you want to do and extreme LST, Just train the top of the plant to one edge of the pot, and then make the turn and follow the rim around...

But an easier way to do a light LST is just to tie the top of the plant with a piece of string, and pull the top down, securing the other end of the string on the lower part of the stem (trunk). It doesn't have to be complicated.
