DWC question

First time growing in DWC bucket. The plant was originally in soil. Everything was going smooth but now the roots are developing what looks like a clear slime. And the roots are taking a yellowish color. How could I fix this? I’m using GH Trio Nutrients.

You have pythium root rot. I would suggest you go sterile with an oxidizer. I use regular bleach (sodium hypochlorite) at 3ppm residual chlorine in DWC. Here's the dilution calculator I've always used: Chlorine dilution calculator

People use everything from chlorine based (sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite) or H2O2(hydrogen peroxide). Bleach is safer and more effective than peroxide

I’ve ordered some hydroguard a colleague told me that may fix the issue.

So i should just dilute my water with bleach. And that should help. And then the hydroguard I ordered should help prevent it from coming back correct ? Thanks btw

People have mixed results with Hydroguard. Some swear by it and others still get slime and rot. It contains bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Another product is Southern AG garden friendly fungicide with the same active ingredient but 98% concentrated. I believe Hydroguard is about 10%.

I would personally never run anything alive in DWC since it's not needed to grow top shelf. I just experienced more cleanup between runs and the result are the same. I have more stability with running oxidizers since I'm in control of removing the bacteria instantly instead of bacteria cultures combating against each other(hard to know what's actually going on).

I just add 3ppm to anything going into the reservoir in DWC.
