Hey everyone! I am in the process of starting my first microgrow! So far I have my Microgrow box build and finished, seeds are ordered and should be here next week. Just gotta get my pots, soil, nutes, and anything else im missing.

So what is the equipment needed to grow? I decided on using FoxFarms Ocean Forest, and the FoxFarms Trio for nutes. Not sure on the size pots im going to use gonna check them out at the grow store. But what else am I missing? Does anyone recommend a decent cheap PH meter? Thanks!

I wouldn't get a cheap one if you want it to last. I like my BlueLab one.

Carbon filter and exhaust. Oscillating fan. Twist tie wire or twine for training.

How micro is your micro grow? Pot size should be matched to total final plant size aka size of your space.

The equipment you really need to grow, you cannot buy. Everyone else that grows, has a pair of brass ones, even if they don't have organic ones. Be one of us. Live forever! Welcome to the fold. Life gets better from here.

I just use the cheap yellow PH pen from Amazon, works fine @$10, but I keep a backup in case it goes bad. I have lost a couple of the cheap ones, once from dropping it on the cement (was baked) and once from dropping and forgetting it in my EWC tea(was again baked).

PH water going in, best advice is to keep a cheap chemical test to verify your meter from time to time, regardless of the meter's cost/quality. Newbs will be served fine with a chemical test to start with, assuming they are not color blind, lol.

Eventually your going to need a mini jewelry loupe so you can check your trichs...You can get one on EBay or Amazon pretty cheap

After harvest, I use mason jars and the Bovida 62 packs to store after they have been dried. Though you can wait until you get closer to harvest to think about that :)

How tall? I would double the amount of light if you are going to let it fill the 2x2 space, 31w per sqft is pretty weak. If you have at least 48" of height I would just use a normal 5 gal, if you have a short space I would go smaller and much shorter and wider to leave the same space for the roots without taking up much plant space.

Im gonna add in some extra side lighting. And sorry the height is 24", so a very small Microgrow, just one plant at a time. I just went to the grow shop and picked up a FoxFarm Trio and some Ocean Forest. The guy there recommended me the 3l pots. But im holding out on the pots until I heard from you guys!

You'll need a reflex meter. Some people question the need for this but anybody who uses one knows how indispensable they are.

Oh and pick-up a sling blade, some folks call it a kaiser blade but I call it a sling blade.

Like noma mentioned, go for a short and wide pot. You should be able to fit a decent volume of soil in a 2x2 floor space, I fit a 2 gallon smart pot in my 1.5x1 cab so you can definitely fit something bigger than 3 liters. They say a gallon of medium for every foot of growth height but by training you can manage your plants height even if its in a larger pot.

I also would recommend a ppm/ph meter all in one. If you keep track of your ppm's closely when feeding you'll never have to worry about burning your plants too badly. Very nifty.

Thank you! I will have to see what I can for short and wide. All they had were round pots at the store I went to.

What about storage bins that can fit under beds... like this:

my only concern would be that with such a large surface area soil would dry out faster so you'd have to water more which can be difficult with a busy schedule.

Something like that could work, I would just have to drill some holes for drainage. Ill have to look around on the webs here to. Would be nice if I could just find a pot like that!

and some tape or paint so no light can get to the roots if all you can find is clear. but yea a pot, or planter, those dimensions would be easiest
