so the guys at the hydro store told me it's "industry practice" to never plug your ballast into any kind of extension cord or power strip.
now about my set up. I'm running one 400watt mh/hps. the light is plugged into the ballast, and the ballast is plugged into a "construction grade" heavy duty power strip. This power strip is plugged into a wall socket. the power strip is rated to 1800 watts capacity. When I told the guys at the hydro store this they went on about the amperage... being "different" or something... they were stoned, anyways. I only halfway believe anything they say, but it was enough to make me curious, don't want to take any risks... so I lay the burden on you, my trusted RIU community of growers.
got the specifics on my power strip : 125 volts, 15 amps, 1875 watts. that's got to be just fine for my 400 watt setup... right?
