extractor fans

been looking into making myself a proper little grow room at of a wardrobe, only looking for it to hold 2-3 plants but was wondering about the fans. I've been looking online for them and the whole kit costs about £100 which seems alot, and thats on a hydroponics website, but looking at others like just regular bathroom extractor fans and they are a lot cheaper, and i'm guessing not as effective. THey also dont come with all the ducting and all of that. Was just wondering though, since its only going to be a regular size wardrobe could i not just stick an extractor fan at the top with no ducting (would have to figure out something to stop light comin in) and just have a hole at the bottom. Has anyone done this, do you think it would be enough ventilation.

edit: i'm only using 250 watt hps at the moment so heat shouldn't be much of a problem but am thinking of stepping it up to 400

I did exactly that. My bathroom fan is 290 cfm. Sucks air from the top of the grow area and then pushes it through a carbon filter and out. I also have HEPA filters on my intakes. I would say my size is just about perfect for me. Without a carbon filter or HEPA filters you could get by with much less cfms though. Mine are also pricey because of the quiet factor. I bet a 110 cfm would work even if you went to a 400 if you don't have any bends and whatnot.

cool, how did you stop light getting in through the holes, or was that not an issue?
I found a shop that sells extractor fans on ebay for 25pound they are a bit on the loud side tho. , When you add your ducting do a few bends in i to stop light getting out .

we got a 250w HPS, 6'x3'x2' cupboard with a 1' top shelf section, couple holes in bottom for intakes, 10" bathroom exhaust fan in top shelf, air goes out hole in back of cupboard around a couple cardboard partitions for a light trap with the ballast housed on top shelf.
seems to work alrite in testing but havent grown in it yet though.
can barely hear the fan from a yard away with the doors shut.
