Personally, I find them incredibly useful and convenient.

Out of the the 14 seeds I have attempted to germinate, 12 have been successful, where as 2 were unsuccessful(C99), of which I take responsibility due to my naivety at the time. not the breeders fault.
Of the 12 successful germinations, I've had 10 females(2 are still to show sex), so at present I've had a 100% female to male ratio, although it could change in a couple of weeks, perhaps I may get a male, it is well documented that it does happen. I did have 2 which hermied but again, this was down to my own fault, the first one(Cannalope Kush) was suffering from a magnesium deficiency which I failed to fix before it was too late and the second(C99) was probably my fault, I had problems managing my PH levels(no ph meter at the time) and so naturally, she had lockouts and eventually decided to have a sex change.

During growth I didn't see much pheno variation, the 4 Lemon Kush that I have grown and am currently growing, only seemed to have 2 different pheno types, 1 more indica and one more sativa, the sativa being the stronger of the two in terms of potency but lacks in smell.
The C99's that germinated were both the same pheno as far as I could tell, both had a strong grapefruit smell and after taste on exhale, both very stretchy and not heavy yielders but the smoke was pretty damn good.

Personally, I'm quite happy to purchase feminized seeds, especially as I only grow for myself and I don't have the room to incorporate a cloning system or a veg room. I also don't see the point in buying regular seeds, simply because I can only grow 3-5 at a time and would prefer to have the "guarantee" of females plus at this moment in time, I have no interest in breeding my own strains.

What's your view on them?

Very good thread! I was having this same conversation with a friend a few days ago. He said the market wants female seeds. We don't see the big deal with buying regs and tossing the males if they are undesired. And they are so much cheaper. It seems like keeping the seeds regular would keep the genetics stronger, but what do I know...fat nothing! lol.

I clone and veg, so I use non-feminized seeds. There is big loss in the flowering room, but the ladies take up the vacated room in the canopy.

Well I'm not really a fan of fems due to my luck with them but that's changing as time goes by.
They serve there purpose like for people who can't pop regular packs of seeds due to space situations and not wanting to deal with males. But I like dealing with the natural way growing reg seeds dealing with male and females because I like making my own seeds.

So yeah if its a strain or cross I want to try and its only in fem ill get it but otherwise ill opt for the regular seeds.

I respect that. I'll be venturing into the market for regular seeds eventually no doubt. I will definitely be ordering Serious Seeds AK47 and Bubblegum, Mr.Nice Black Widow and Medicine Man, DJShort Blueberry and I may look for some other highly regarded strains. But with the feminized market, there are so many crosses and remakes that you really are spoiled for choice. I'm sure if I looked more into the regular seed market I'd find a large list of strains I want to try, but I'm unsure if it would match the list I'm still compiling now with feminized seeds.

There are a lot more reg strains compared to fem strains lol. Nost fem strains are a special plant found out of a regular pack reversed and used to pollinate clones of itself and other females.
I mean you can breed fem seeds too when done right your results will be good but if not you can be messing with hermies galore lol.

Believe me when I say this once you have hands on knowledge on making your own crosses and seeds you will be buying both fem and reg seeds to mix and match your needs and wants.
That's what I do.

I want regs so I can get some males.
I don't want to be buying seeds all of the time, and would like to cross
some stuff so I can have my own strains that no one else is smoking.

Initially, I used only fem beans, and some have been outstanding. RP Confidential Cheese comes to mind. I like guaranteed females, but the queens of the garden are female clones from regs. But I'll never say one is better until I try them all, because, anyone can say anything....j/k....at this point in my research, I'd have to give the nod to regs for that extra ooomph.

Yeah that's basically my goal. Create some potent hybrids for my liking. Now every run I want to make seeds. I'm starting a new grow with some regular seeds now but plan on adding some fem ufos to the mix to make some crosses and add to my female count on the regs.

I was wondering about the stability between
reg x fem
reg x auto
using colloidal silver and so on.

I have a bunch of fem seeds and autos but made sure I got some
regs in the batch I just ordered. Im not really sold on auto's they seem to
take the fun out of it.

IMO there is so much that can be done, and the experiment makes things
interesting. For me, growing is a hobby with a benefit at the end so trial
and error and funky strains is right up my alley.

Raising good smoke is as pleasurable as smoking it, and I can see the coolness in crossing this with that because of this and that. I have a different approach: I mix already grown and cured this with that, depending on the occasion. Some great stones aren't necessarily the tastiest, so sprinkle some Chucky's Bride [fruit cocktail] in the Timewreck, for instance. Then roll 'em. bowl em, or vape em.

This, of course, approximates the nugs I'd have made if I'd crossed and bred and such....but with far less effort. :)

You really don't get the same results... Lol.

You're right of course....but look: if I have a dozen mason jars in the cubbard containing 4- 5 varieties, and I said IF - but I'd likely have a wake and bake, a daytime motivator, an afternoon chiller, and a night time knockdown. I'd likely have a couple that are just delicious. See how many crosses I have....if I'm in the mood for a cross?

All of the above is pure fantasy, of course.......but theoretically, it's an organic Baskin-Robbins if you work it right.

well some say they wouldn't recommend using fem seeds to breed with i ve heard that a couple of times on icmag I think. But I would like to see myself but so far its only been reg x reg for me. The fems I popped were before my breedig time. I got a fem tahoe and motorbreath now that I hit with pollen from a starfighter male.

Loooove the Chucky's Bride. The smell and flavor, nice all around buzz. I have used feminized seeds in the past, some dank can be found in fems. However, I do plan on breeding my own strains so I have decided it is best to not include them in any kind of my future grows. Choosing a good breeder is key if you do not want hermie, which is the real Devil of fem seeds, not males. Most everyone can spot a male; a little harder to catch a hermie, and by the time you do catch it, might be too late...your room has female pollen everywhere. Not a big deal to toss males. I usually get %65 or better female to male ratio, but again, I choose only the best breeders to buy my beans from. Peace.
