Grow looks good.

My point is this, give two men 500 bucks, send one off to get leds and one off to get hps. Come back in 5 years and see who has grown more. Even after you figure the small electric bill of a couple 1000 watters, it still isn't an argument that can be won.

Watt per watt, even if led does produce more, it's not cost effective in the end. LEDs are great for guys who have heat issues and no way of exhausting the hot air, but thats not an argument that would put it ahead of an hps setup.

I could go buy a 300k super car right now and my modded zo6 would spank it up and down the track in all forms for a third the cost. BUt what you are saying is just because your 300k super car has a better radiator and a slightly tighter turning radias, that it must be better all the way around....it's not.

End result is not just measured by watts used, you have to tie in ALL factors, otherwise you are just padding your own stats.

You could have at least photoshopped the 2nd set of pictures to look like they were growing under LED's. Only thing I see growing under those LED's is the vegging plants.

your 1000%right my friend but this thread is wich light is better looking at lights alone cost or power not a factor granted hps is better cuz it gives similar results but for way less cash my point is watt for watt led produces more and better bud imo they are both great hps and led this is an old thread i started way back when people where saying led couldnt grow at all

I just saw irishboys led grows and wow leds can produce but the cost is crazy.

Good to see this HiD vs LED thing come up over and over. Actually its fun to see the competition between the two.

Having both a 400w HPS and a high end LED to make the comparison I can say that everything depends on how you personally wish to pay for performance.
If you want to get going on the cheaper end of things and still be very effective, a 400w (as an example) is a great choice.
The price of a couple bulbs a year ($150) and with the ballast around 500w+ total power consumption between the ballast and cooling fan and light itself
a little higher electrical costs. You can buy a good reliable setup for say $350.

Vs

A $1200 LED light, that can do what the 400-600w does, and even better when it comes to the veg state.
No bulbs to replace and a lifespan of 8-10 years on the LEDs, consuming around 400w. Also no heat factor or ballast to deal with.

But one thing I will say about LED lights in general. The overwhelming majority of them on the market are BS and are low quality.
If you want a LED that will truly work like a HID you need to pay the piper big bucks and even then be very careful who you buy from.

Did my homework and chose a LED from http://www.blackdogled.com/
Blows away the jumbo ufo I had from prosource, literally no comparison whatsoever.

So it all comes down to do you want to pay little by little each year, or do you want to pay for the cost of most
of its life usage up front. To each their own.

This argument is a rapidly moving target. The availability and price of premium quality LED is coming down pretty fast. In the very near future, just a couple years, HID will be fading even for indoor commercial grows. Just a matter of photons, $$ and results.
