Hello all I'm gonna be attempting my first grow in my closet its 2 1/2feet wide x 4feet deep x 6feet high. I thought I'd better join a fourm to help me out a bit I've been researching for quite some time but I still need some input on how to go about things. I'm gonna be getting some clones from someone this coming week and would like to grow smaller one's cause of my knowledge they would take less time to grow but not to sure how many would be good. I'm going to be using soil and a 400 watt mh and if I could scroung up some extra cash i will be getting a Hps bulb for flowering but if not oh well. I'm going to mylar the inside of the closet and use a passive air intake as well as 2 9 inch fans one to circulate air and the other for exhaust I'm also using liquid nutrients and I need to pick up ph tester but not to sure what else and also the differnt methods like scrog topping and what not so I will be very greatful for any help for a newbie tryna put his foot in the door THANX:peace:

Your proposed setup sounds decent enough. Make sure you get a good thermometer, but that HID light can heat things up pretty good. One thing:

Can you explain that? Why would a smaller clone take less time to grow than a larger one?

well i mean not vegging for as long so i could fit more in the space i got so there for less time vegging means they will be done sooner

Your phrasing threw me off a bit, but I get what you're saying. You're basically talking about a sea of green grow(SOG). My hydro system uses fairly big 2 gallon pots, so I can't exactly maximize my space. I like growing medium to large plants anyway, so I don't mind the extra veg time. I have 5 going right now that will probably need another 7-10 days of veg before I switch to 12/12, but I digress. Good luck with your grow. :peace:

would you know how much a plant should grow after you put it into flowering compared to the size when it's in vegging and is there such thing as not vegging enough?

The flower stretch ( the upward spurt in the first 2 weeks of flower) depends on strain. They usually stretch 12-24". You can flower a rooted clone with NO veg time if desired. If I were you I would setup a MOM area and veg up 1 mom to keep supplying the flower chamber with clones on a perpetual harvest :joint:

well I would like to do it on a larger scale with mothers and what not I just need to get one crop done first before I devote more money for lights and equipment cause I'm not 100% positvive they'll survive my wrath lol but thanx for the advice and when would you be able to take clones off the plant?

If you start a mom from clone you can veg her up to the point of cutting in a few weeks. The first set of clones will be really thin stems and may not do very well but the plants LOVE being pruned. They come back with thicker stems that clone and grow well. There are lots of different ways of cloning as well but I do not want to get to far down a rabbit trail you won't be needing this time around.

I really recommend using an HPS for flower if you have a compatible ballast. MH will flower a plant but not very well. You can get a cheap 400W HPS at Home Depot ofr Lowes for $20.

I am just a couple weeks in to my first grow but I have done a TON of research so fire away with any questions you might have.

ok so if i do keep a mother and i use cfl like you say how big am i expecting this mother to get and my buddy keeps telling me that the plants have to be 18 inches before flowering for this strain or does it really matter and he doesnt even know the name so...

You can keep it pruned to whatever size you need. 12-36". Really up to you most of the time. Some strains are picky but must are not. I plan on keeping my moms in 2 - 18 gallon tubs. I stacked on top of the other with the lights attached to the top.

Sounds like you should have a good grow. I would start flowering at 12 " that way you end up with 4' plants . Should give you a good harvest . Good luck and keep growing

I have 4 growing in an area 2 ' x 3' x 5' and I just harvested my last grow . Didnt have any problems . So I would say you could do the same.
