First grow: 400W Barney's Farm LSD, LA Woman, Skunk #1

Hey guys, doing a closet medical grow, got some great seeds from Attitude for myself as a christmas present last year: primarily got the Barney's Farm LSD feminized seeds, then a bunch of freebies. I decided to do a fem-only closet so from the freebies I selected DNA Genetics' LA Woman fem (a real beauty if the pics are to be believed)

This is a 400W closet grow for medical personals, and my first time growing buds ever. Although I was a pretty good gardener before this.

So this is not just a grow journal, I'd love input, and I have a few questions. I'm also going to be posting in reverse chronological order. My ladies are in about week 6 of veg, recently transplanted to 3 gallon pots and looking pretty happy.

For veg nutes I'm just using some General Hydroponics Maxigrow, and I've got some Maxibloom as well.

I need advice on bloom nutes and schedule though. I'd love something pretty bulletproof before I start flowering any week now.

I'm using a solarmax 7200k deluxe vegging bulb, it's been fantastic so far

anyway here are some other pics, going back in time:

So what nutes do you guys recommend once I begin to flower?

I'm looking for best price to effectiveness ratio, there are so many different kinds of bloom fertilizers it's a bit confusing. I've got some money to spend but I'm not looking to pay $100 extra for a 1% boost in resin.

What are your favorite combos? is a carb solution necessary at the end?

THANKS!!!!

I would love some help, or comments guys... I'm about to flower and I'm trying to decide what nutrients to get, especially for the Barney's LSD.

my grow's not horrible, right? :-(:-(:-(

zero comments?

Nice!I'm using Canna terra flores for flowering, seems fine but I am only 3 weeks into flower but Canna is supposed to be one of the best.I used bio bizz bio grow for veg, wasn't sure on changing brands but I wanted to try the Canna. My 2 girls are also Skunk 1 but I'm worried bout how high these babys are getting, seeing an inch of growth nearly every day,Next grow I think I might just veg for 2 weeks.

so yeah, I just started flowering. Went with Cha-ching, beastie bloomz and open sesame from foxfarm. I just measured one of my plants. it's two goddam feet tall!!!

I'm on day one of flowering. how on earth am I going to deal with a potentially six foot plant? they are only in 3 gallon pots, is there any way it could get over five feet? I have good two feet more at minimum to work with, I could theoretically install another bar to support the light and raise it higher, but id rather not do that

so anyone have an idea if I'm gonna run out of room?

- 6 plants in 3 gal pots - 400W HPS light

- started flowering yesterday

- plants were between 18-24 inches at end of veg

- I have 2-3 feet of clearance, compensating for 1 ft. of distance from light

am I looking at potentially 6 ft plants? I have very high ceilings in the closet but I'd need to re-configure a lot of stuff which I'd rather not do while flowering...

Lookin pretty good! they were droopy when I came home from work today, looked like thirst and a bit of heat stress, they popped back up within three hours. If it's hard to tell how big they are, those fan leaves on the left are bigger than my fully stretched hand. And I don't have tiny hands ;)

hey ian how good is that diy filter? im thinking of making one. would you recomend one?

hell yeah! the price can't be beat, plus you can refill it yourself without breaking anything, on top of which you can even re-activated your charcoal yourself which means you only have to buy one batch and re-use it. It will probably last 5- 10 grows, which is more than I can say for store bought

Store bought and "professional" can filters do have some advantages:

- they tend to last longer. This is kind of negated by the fact you can swap out the charcoal in your own.

-well-made. They won't fall apart (usually). Also the charcoal is packed tighter by machines than you can do it yourself

However, if price is an issue at all, and it should be, with a decent one costing over $200, definitely make it yourself.

While the following isn't a tutorial, it's not rocket science either.

1. get some fine aluminum screen material (holes smaller than 1/4")

2. get an inline duct cap and one flange, and two 6'' screw-tightened duct collars. Ask anyone at a hardware store

3. get 10-25 lbs of activated charcoal, and a sheet of cut-to-size activated charcoal pre-filter (easy online)

4. gloves, duct tape, heavy duty scissors (anything you can cut the screen with). Gloves are very important you can hurt yourself on those metal screens after cutting them

5. Wrap your screen into a cylinder about 8-14'' tall, with the ducting cap underneath as the "bottom"

6. heavily duct tape the screen to the cap. Don't cover the screen itself. Now duct tape the "top" of the screen cylinder to your flange. This will connect to your fan with ducting

7. cut the carbon prefilter to size and wrap it around the outside of the can. secure with velcro or small strips of tape. make sure the prefilter covers all your holes

8. pour your charcoal in, leaving 1-2 inches at the top (otherwise your fan with suck in charcoal or rattle it around inside)

9. Attach to fan.

every couple of weeks it helps to vacuum dust off the prefilter, mix the charcoal around inside, or you can even crush some of the charcoal in the middle

eventually you will need to re-activate it. Soak it in a very strong sodium hydroxide (naOH) solution, wash thoroughly with distilled water, then bake it at 450-500 degrees for about 20 minutes. good as new :bigjoint:
