First grow...Newb looking for support!

Its about the 8th day since putting them in the soil after germination.
The leafs seem a bit strange, I can't quite put my finger on it...
Also I was wondering if there were any proven techniques for getting good main stem development since mine seem a bit frail...

They dont look so bad. I would add a few more cfls and possibly lower the light as much as possible without burning them. It looks like they are thinking about stretching.

Does anyone know for plants that are 8 weeks old what distance should a 250w HPS be kept at?

Close enough to not burn them, like I said above. There can be a few factors involved there. Airflow being a big one. Hold your hand about 4 inches above the plant, lower the light and stop when the top of your hand starts to feel uncomfortable. If it burns your hand it will burn your plant. You will just have to keep a close eye on it and keep raising the light as the plant grows. Add some more cfls on the sides as it grows.
