Greetings All,

I am stoked to share my first attempt at growing my own. I have studied and researched for over 5 months and now having the construction outa the way, I am going to see if I can get this right. I went in with a friend on a seed order and this is what I am running. 4 - White Widow ( 4 popped ), 6 - J 23 ( 5 popped ), 5 Skunk x Northern Light ( 4 popped ) and 6 TGU ( The Great Unknown) seeds that looked gorgeous and 4 popped fairly quickly) as soon as they get a wee bit of footing, gonna get them into the drip box for starters. Damn, this is way too cool :)

So I have them nested in stg cubes and some distilled water and wating for signs of life. :weed:

Will be updating regularly.

Peace

Hello All,

Here is an update, after only a couple of days the seeds are actually trying to come back outa the cubes (please tell me if there is something abnormal about that), looks like life is showing. Will post some pics as soon as the camera battery is charged, it takes forever, so might be tomorrow.

Looks kewl to me, as I pushed them into the cube a good 1/2"+ ( root down of course ) and it looks like the seeds are crawling back outa the cubes as some are almost back out, and there is a nice little light green root shooting out the bottom

This makes me harder than $40 worth of jaw breakers

Peace

Okay, finally a couple of pics to show of my first sprouts, was lucky enough to get about 8 out of 12 to actually come up, the rest look a wee bit slow, so I will let the sit another day or so and if they don't pop up outa the cube, will replace them with a few new ones.

They are on an 18/6 schedule, with the grow light at 50%( just 2 outa 4 bulbs) and watered 3 times ( just distilled )a day at 6am, 3pm, 10pm for about 2 mins each cycle.

If anyone has any input about how I am doing this, I humbly ask you to let me know, my mouth is shut and my ears are open.

Peace and Big Buds for All!

Might be watering a bit much I'd say. What kind of lighting will you be using?
Thanx for the reply M8.

I changed the cycle a bit because those stg cubes dry out a bit faster than I figured, they do not hold water like rockwool. I have 2' 4 bulb 6500k flos for my mother/clone and veg room as they are pretty tight spaces. I can get the plants to almost 15 inches before I have to move them into the flower room. I will have 1 600w HPS for the flower room and a couple of 4' bloom flos that will only come on in the event of a power failure as they are tied to my backup power ( 1500watt inverter and a couple of deep cycle trolling motor batteries). and that space is just barely 4' x 4' .

Sounds good bro! I just had some problems with power not too long ago, 5 days of darkness for my plants! I have to get like you, that back-up sounds heaven sent.

Okay, Repost, sorry for the pic issue. Operator head space error I am sure...lol

Here is where I stand as of this morning. I started off with the stg cubes in hydroton with distilled water ( drippers ) every 30 hours, for just 30 secs ( after a couple of initial cycles to figure out the stg cubes water retention) and things started off respectably, as I had great germination/sprouting ratios but that is where the beauty of the story ceases.
roughly a couple of weeks go by and things are at a bit of a standstill ( 18/6 lights at 50%) at 10" from the plants with gentle air circulation. Temp swings are roughly 70-74 with 45-65% humidity and clean water at 68-72. I inspected a couple of the casualties and found very little root growth and the cube was slighly moist, definently nowhere near saturated, but would put a cig out quick( trying to relate moisture level..lol)
Took a couple of days to gather up the materials to go soilless ( peat, vermiculite and perlite) and transplanted everthing that was showing a pulse.
So I have out of 8 starters, 4 are hanging well after the transplant to containers with a soiless mix and 3 others that were hanging on by a thread ( literally) I am trying to salvage. I have several more seeds popping to get me back upto at least 8, hopefully 10 to grow till I can sex them and hopefully have some females to start a crop ratation with. The Skunk x NL seemed to like the move, after the first 24 hours, I swear the damn thing doubled in size in the following 36 hours. Any way, not to digress, here is a few pics of todays standings.

The last pic is a couple of nice frosty nugs a fellow grower just completed curing. Great wake and bake for sure

So here we are are poking at 3 weeks, and hopefully they will take off and start looking like a plant should look..lol

Happy Thanksgiving All !

I bought a slab of sure to grow cubes to try and absolutely hated them. They dry out way fast and started growing algae quick. After less than oh 5 of them I threw the rest away!

Thanx for the replys folks. I too, am very disappointed in the performance of the stg cubes. They vary greatly from cube to cube on water retention. With the dripper system I was using, some of the cubes would be too soaked, some good and others a bit dry, and the plants reacted accordingly (imo). The stg cubes have to be kept in the dark,(covered) as the light will penetrate them all the way through and root growth will cease for sure. I feel much more comfortable now with a soiless mix as the plants are already smoking the stg cube setup in growth in leaps and bounds.

Onward and Upward :weed:

Afternoon Folks,

Here is a small update on my first grow. I was forced to changeup my method in the middle of my first attempt. I went from drippers and stg cubes to soiless and the results have made me glad I switched.
The White Widow that was in the first batch is looking very healthy. The Skunk X NL is making a nice recovery, I thought for a while there, it was gonna go bye bye on me. I had a few die during this time, so I popped a few more seeds and now have my 10 plants to start with. Hopefully there will be a female or 2 in the bunch.

I can say without a doubt, I like my new hobby :weed:

Good Evening Folks,

Just wanted to share an small update. I was checking on the little ones as they were in 1/2 gallon containers( plastic baggie pots ) and I thought that would suffice for a few weeks. Well, I wanted to clean inside the cabinet, so I moved a couple of them out of the way to clean and I got nervous, these little bitty plants already had roots coming out of the weep holes on the bottom of these baggie pots. I freaked out a little, so I transplanted them to larger 1.5 gallon baggie pots. I would have never thought that the roots would already grown as much as they have. The 2 larger plants are not quite 3 weeks from germination and have more roots than I can shake a stick at. It was a PITA to get it done, thank goodness momma agreed to help me a little, needed the extra hands. Here is the aftermath. I did break a few very small roots at the bottom of the pot during the transplant, so I hope that all works itself out. Here are a few pics of my so called handi work. I honestly had no idea these plants would grow roots so fast.

Weed10.jpgWeed11.jpgWeed12.jpgweed14.jpg

And on a side note, I think I may have actually learned how to focus this chicken scratch camera I have. HD cam coming from Santa.
They will live in these pots untill I can get a clone or 2 from each one and sex it. I think I am becoming a growing addict, I wish I had a nice 10'x10' grow room as I would be in hog heaven..lol

Peace

Good Morning All,

Friday, I gave my babies thier first round of nutrients ( 1/4 strength ). This morning I topped the 2 oldest and 2 others that were ready. I am planning on a 6 day rotation on the feeding, feed on day 1, nothing on day 2 and 3, just distilled water on day 4, nothing on day 5 and 6, then repeat. I will adjust, if I see a change is needed. Here are a few pics, they seem to be enjoying thier surroundings so far. I have one that is a bit lighter green in the middle( 4th pic center rear plant), but it seems to be darkening up slowly. I will bump up the nutes to half strength in a couple of rotations and then after they get thier 2nd and final topping, hit them with 3/4 strength and let them roll out. As soon as I get Santa paid off, my 600watt setup will be ordered and I will try to get a clone off of each one and 12/12 them to see if I have any ladies present.

Morning All,

Another small update. I just fed them 1/2 strength nutes and so far so good. I have a friend that is bringing me a 400w MH up to the lake to use for a bit in my grow room, he has moved on to all 1k lighting.
I hope to see a jump in growth from adding it to the room. Here is a few pics of the progress so far. It may be me, but I am getting a faint weed smell when I open the door to the grow room, and I like it..lol
Will have them under that 400w on Sunday after I get done harassing the crappie for the weekend.

I figure 2-3 more weeks of veg at 1/2 strength nutes and I should be ready to grab a few clones.

Peace
