First grow with Jack Flash

Hello all, This is going to be my first hydro grow journal. 2.5 weeks since germination began and I have made a ton of mistakes. Nothing huge though.

Here is what I have going on in the veg tent. Please feel free to comment and educate.

2 x 4 grow tent for veg and a mom. I am using a medium cement mixing tray for an ebb and flo set up.
5 gals fills the tray and I have 10 gallons in res.
This tray holds 9 6" coco baskets filled with 50/50 coco/perlite, set in hygroton. Tray size allows for 2 feet of space for two future mothers. (more later on how the Mother thing will work out plans wise.)
Lighting so far is 1 Glowpanel 45 with a couple equivalent to a 100 Watt cfl's.
I'll get another glowpanel for the mother side if this one proves itself.. so far so good. Sure like the 28Ws it uses.
Oh, jumping around here..I set a small 6" clip fan over the top vent duct and it keeps the tent at the same temp of the room. 73 at night and high of 78 during the day. Res temp stays at about 73 degrees F.
I DYIed a light trap over the fan.

I ordered a free House and Garden sample pack and am using all ingredients as per schedule. Except! and I have to cut this crap soon, is that I add things that sound good for the plants. Like superthrive, Liquid karma, hygrozone, Calmag, Mykos oh and Silica Blast as a PH up. You know like really getting into seasoning a steak. grin.
My 6 seedlings are 3 days into the HG line. Ha before this I was using 1/4 strength Miracle Grow general purpose. did OK..I think. Maybe good I added the other ingredients.

PH 5.6 - 6.1
Res temp 73 F.
light on 20/4
flood the table 2X a day.

My meter reads 1 EC and the chart says it should be 1.2 EC with the dosages they give. Hmmm...

I haven't taken any pics yet and have no idea how all the mixed lighting will come out. We will see. Stay tuned.

I have a question about identifying the sativa pheno, to use as a Mom.
Maybe to early to tell. pics coming

Seedlings are 2.5 weeks since planting. Three on left germinated in a half a day.
Right side took as much a week to pop. Bottom left girl (all these seeds are fem)
popped first but Top left girl is growing super fast in relation.

I made some goof with germination and 6 of four are left. Jack Flash #5 from (Sensei seeds) has two phenos indica and sativa. The sativa though flowering a bit longer is reported to be world class. Anyway sounds like what I am after. 9 weeks flower,
125 g a plant, and a connoisseurs smoke. Up beat too.. I like up weed.

One more thing here. I put the cracked seeds from Paper towel in rapid rooters.
They seem to hold water like crazy! My problem with this is that I placed the rooters into very porous perlite/coco so one medium is staying much wetter than the other.
I hope that in a short period the plants disintegrate the rooter with immense root growth! Ha! Any thoughts?
I was going to use the rooters for clones with a dome. Now I think I might just root them in the 6" coco pots. For cloning I plan to use root tek and light Hygrozyme, Root excelerator, and Mykos. (spice that steak up! Heat pad and single 2' t5.

Thanks it's a learning in progress for sure. This site has been great for research and advice!!

I haven't gotten into what I plan on doing for flower, I am still researching tents, fans, filters etc.
here's the plan for 12/12:

Once I have a mother and can clone from her I will veg these in the 2x4 (don't know for how long) then into a 5 x 5 tent with a 600W HPS.
4 x4 ebb and flo table. The 6 inch coco pots will be placed in 3 gal smart pots filled with same medium, these will be set in 3" lava cinders.
I have a switchable ballast that will allow me to run a 400W Mh if I need to for any reason. I have a large light shade too.

Any guess on how many Jack Flash are needed to fill a 4 x 4 SCrOG? I'm thinking 9??

Two out of six of my almost three week old seedlings have bright red petioles.
All get the same food. All are Jack Flash #5.

I've done a few forum searches re nute deficiency or the likely possibility that this is
genetic. Anyone know about this? As I have mentioned I am looking for the two phenos this Jack hybrid offers. All six have fairly wide leaves but I think too soon to use this as a yard stick (for indica obviously). I have read that indicas do the red petiole thing more than sativa?? I'll be keeping my eye on this. If anybody knows about Jack Flash, or the red petiole please let me know. BTW the red girls are also the strongest and largest except for the one which germinated well ahead of the others.

I took some pics of the 6. Does any one have any input on pheno (they are 3 wks and a day from seed.) Sativa or indica??
also I see some odd coloration in some of the leaves, see plant #5. Also do these look overfed? or any deficiency? There is a bit of leaf curl that showed up yesterday when I pumped up the nutes mid res change.

#1 germinated first
#2 largest
#3, #4 germed after 3 days
#5, #6 germed after 6 days

Fem. Jack Flash # 5. I believe the #5 means fem. Got any tips on this variety??

I moved them to a larger tray and set the coco pots in 3 gal root pots. PPM at 890. Can't say yet about a pheno though one looks much more indica #5. Which may mean the others are leaning sativa?? I'm not frailer growing any of the dutch hybrids, this is definitely not the marijuana my father used to gro

My remodeled plan is this: Grow these out for three more weeks (that will be 9 weeks since germination) I think they will be large enough to take clones from then.
I think I will be able to tell the Best Mom by then so i will make 9 clones from this one. Take one clone from the other five (looking at 14 live clones). I will then move the present contender mom on a drain to waste coco drip. Putting the 5 other plants outside and seeing what they do flower wise. When the 9 clones are rooted and veged I will 12/12 them in the 5x5 tent for 8-9..10 weeks. I will keep on hold the clones from the outside 5 just incase I see a mom I like more.

Yeah the 5 means fem. It's one of my favorite plants. I've only grown the sativa pheno and it's fire. I did mine for about 8.5-9 weeks. Never grown it from seed only clone. I was thinking of buying a pack but unsure about their fem seeds. I can't wait to see your plants in 8 weeks.

Thanks for the info about flowering times and good word on the smoke!. I'm going to be ending up with a mother plant and clones for a 4x4 scrog (600 hps). I am just guessing at veg time and amount of plants needed to fill the screen. Any thoughts? All subject to change but I am thinking 9 plants and let the clones get about a foot tall which will probably be 2-3 weeks veg time. I'm veging under an LED (glow panel 45) and two daylight cfl's so not a huge amount of light and the led's tend to make a shorter plant.. yet very healthy from the look of my girls now.

Oh another question: Did your sativa leaning plants look obviously sativa? The largest leaves on my two favorite candidates are 1.5 inches wide. These is the narrowest of the 6. Boy these plants have serrated leaves! Very bushy!
I would love to see them veg under a MH.

Did you find JF to be a big eater? I have heard that they are not??
