Ive started a journal with some pics of my grow space, I just had a few questions before I get things going...

Ive got a 1000w mH light with air cooled reflector how high should it be at seedling? It currently sits at 40inchs above the top of the grow bucket.

and Im going to go the market to pick up some RO water, any reccomendations on the brand that people usually have success with, like poland spring, or something of the sort.

Well after a few hourse skimming the surface of these threads, I havent really found any answers... Anyone got a clue what height I should begin with the light?

That's good, 40", and work your way closer and closer each day after they are rooted. Eventually you should be less than 24" away.

Hey guys ive been getting some varied conclusions to how I should run the drip on my powergrower eco... Some say 24hrs throughout whole grow some say 3 times a day for 30 minutes...?

thanks much appreciated!

now for those damn seeds!!!:weed:
My suggestion to answer a few of your questions is to get some rockwool cubes to start.

Germinate the seeds and start them in the small brown rockwool and then insert those into 4in. rockwool cubes.

Hand water when you start, don't use the drip system and water I would say 1 - 2 time/day soaking the rockwool cube adequately.

Water it again basically when the cube is completely dry.

When the plant gets bigger you'll need to trun the drip system on and I would have it go for 5 minutes every 15 minutes. Some leave it on 24 hours, this really should be debated a bit and you can make your call based on what you see fit.

I have done 5 minutes every 15 and it worked out.

Now, the reasons....

This is your first grow and it looks like you've done some research. Hydroton hydroponics can be very finicky wth watering times and very sensitive to mistakes with timers, power outages, etc.

The rockwool will give you some resistance to these problems. It's hold moisture and oxygen very well so the roots will be protected from you in the beginning. As the plant grows and you get more comfortable the roots will leave the rockwool and you'll be responsible for those, but you should then have an idea on how the watering goes.

Now....

Do you have a PH Pen?

a PPM Meter?

What nutrients do you have?

Answer to your first question, get the cheapest RO water they have. For some reason it's always the cleanest.

I don't know about your seed situation...hope that works out, if not, find some dank bagseed, it's your first grow...

Oh yeah, and one bucket? If you're religous you better start praying for a female. The only thing I believe in is Murphy and well you know..

And the idea of the external ballast is to get it out of the grow room. Generates a lot of heat.

oh man, I've got more questions, sorry....looking back at this thread do you have a 1000w light over ONE bucket.

Where's your air circulation coming from? I see an air cooled hood, but nothing connected to hit? That little room is going to go from a grow room to an oven in short order.

You've got some things to consider or explain, but I'd be willing to help you get this going and I'm sure others will help you out along the way.

I just got back from the hyroponic store and picked up some ph up/down so Im probably gonna go the tap water route now after just testing it(works great by the way).

I currently have ph tester I use for my pool/spa but have that hannah combo meter on the way that measures ppm/ec/ph.

Using foxfarms nutrients: Bigbloom,Biggrow,TigerBloom
Also have the nutes that came with the power grower eco from GH.

Im going for a stealth setup, and to take the ballast out of the space would really reveal what Im trying to hide, and to add it does make a annoying sound when on.

Ive played around with the temps with the light on for a couple hours last night and they stayed between 76-83F with the humidity at around 34 after running for 6 hours straight....

I really dont use the heat in the winter and this basement Im in tends to get cold(which I dont mind).

Im going to use rapid rooters because a friend of mine said he had great success with these...and prob going to germinate my seeds using the paper towel method I have a heat mat I use for my back that should the the trick.

You must be in siberia to be able to run that thing with the ballast in there for 6 hours with no heat issues. I would start out with a couple of CFL's for a seedling though. You can use that light, but it's pointless and potentially harmful.

The hanna will be good, you can use tap water, I hate it, especially in hydro, but it can be done. you'll find when you get the hanna that the water is going to be high in ppm already and sometimes you don't find out until later that it was too much CAL and it locks out nutes, just a forwarning. Not always a problem though.

You should also let the water sit for 24 hours before using it.

Hope you ordered feminized seeds at least. You're only growing 1 plant right?

Yea, ordered Super Lemon Haze(feminized),Arjans Haze(feminzed) and ak48.

I was thinking of getting a small 4 shelf rack in the corner to put the ballast and all the electricals off the floor, and on the 3rd or 4th shelve have a fan blowing into the light while its on.

and while the light is on I can always crack open the sliding door for better circulation.
