my best advise would be to sell the 400w on craigslist and get a 600w and a 6" inline fan to cool it. then later you can add a second 600w to cover the other side of the tent.

2x600w in a 4x8 tent will yield some of your best gram/watt provided you get that fan to keep it cool.

600w is more effecient per watt and the cost between the 600w and the 400w is minimal and the resale value is better. its easier to expand your grow using 600w's as well. equipment selection jumps huge as well.

It's a 4x4 tent, right? 8 feet tall? How close do you have the light? Seems kind far away for a 400w.

funny you say that actually, I just picked up a 600w with a 3x3 ventilated hood, with 2 6in' duct fans, thanks btw :weed:

take those duct fans back and exchange for an inline fan. those duct fans are junk and anyone who told you that would cool a 600w light is hustling you. those "duct fans" are glorified pc fans. for $40 more you would get a 6" inline fan pushing a true 400 cfm and you would never need to buy another fan for exhaust unless you start using 1000w lights. also get a speed controller. that sucker is powerful.

yeah i knew they sucked from the get, but they were 20 bucks each and move like 150 cfm if im not mistaken, but yeah I plan to get 2 inline fans and a carbon filter soon.

in a 4x4 tent a 6" inline will have enough power to go through the carbon filter, cool the lights and cycle all air. you will only need the one fan. keep it up they look great

That's kinda far away for a 400 in my opinion. My 600 is around that distance from the canopy, maybe closer. When I had a 400 it would be more like 12 inches away. Take a look at this chart;

that's a really nifty chart, thank you for that :) when I install my 600, ill keep it about 14 inches away, the bulbs i got put out 95,000 lumens, thanks again for that chart!

I found disance depends on what your set-up is. With open hoods the plants have to be further away from the lights, but with air cooled hoods you can get closer. My plants sit about 6 inches or so from the glass.

The guys are right though, use one fan for cooling. I am running a filter and cooling 2 600 hps lights with a 750 cfm fan.

Good looking grow btw. one more thing if you are not running a filter and just cooling 1 600 hps light, a duct fan will work ok, I have done it and it got me by until I got inline fans with speed controllers, world of difference.
