nah man didnt make yourself look dumb just look like a newbie looking for info....nothing dumb about that...

what would have made you look dumb would be if you asked "can you tell me how to grow mushrooms" :)

mycotopia.net
shroomery.org
you tube (search keywords like PF tek, Popcorn tek, Tek, psilosibin cubenis grow.....)
can also google those keywords

best of luck man. get in there and read and ask questions and read......the vid on the first page of my journal is a good video, long but pretty good.

from what i hear the mycotopia site is much better but i dont have any experience with either of them.

from what iunderstand the PF tek (which is the brown rice flour and vermiculite like in the video) is not the best way to get large yeilds but its a fairly simple method for those just starting out. i got talked into doing popcorn tek which seems to be working alright for me but i think i have some contams. just waiting out to see how it all goes.

How easy would you say its been so far? It doesn't seem too difficult it seems more tedious than difficult with all the sterilization needed to keep other bacteria out I think I'll give it a try when I've done more research Mycology does seem like a fun hobby :)

its really not that difficult in my mind, a good glovebox i would say is a necessary item. i made one and the box was way too small and the gloves i used were way too small and it ended up being a nightmare.

if you make one make sure you use a large box or tote and make sure the gloves slip on and off easily.

I'd have to punch my unicorn if I'd done that lmfao! My old mans an engineer so I get him to design my stuff and I build it lol it seems like it could be a real fun hobby plus if you took them in moderation a pleasant outcome too lol :)

There is for sure a learning curve to growing mushrooms but it is really not as hard as most make it out to be. If you decided to go ahead I would also suggest using popcorn as the PF Tek is far from the best way to grow mushrooms as just about all the experienced growers here will tell you. Being sterile is a pain in the @$$ but well worth it in the end if all goes well, I am looking forward to having a plentiful supply of mushrooms by 4/20 if not a bit sooner than that. I also agree that you should head over to Matt's thread entitled "My first class with the golden teacher" and start reading from the begining(yes I know there is a lot of information but if you are not willing to take the effort to learn how to do things correctly then you are just wasting your time) as there is a WEALTH of information there, micotopia.com I just recently stumbled on and also have a large amount of information as it was created for information on mushrooms. I wish you the best of luck in your adventure and hope you stick around to see how Matt and I's grows turn out as you could learn a lot in this time.

On the other side of things I checked out my jars today and they look the same as yesterday....LOL Ok so I didn't really expect anything to happen overnight but it would have been awesome no? Hopefully come next weekend I will have 2 dozen beautifuly white covered grain jars!

Haha yeah that's no shit! I attempted to make my glove box yesterday and lets just say it did NOT turn out the way I wanted it to....Couldn't get the gloves to glue to the side of my tote, ended up just cutting the holes for my hands(with the gloves on) and spraying the HELL out of the box and everything else as it went in with a 10/1 ratio of bleach water. I let everything sit in the tote with the lid on for a couple minutes prior to doing anything inside and used a lysol wipe to clean the needle on my syringe between jars. Hopefully I took enough precautions and all goes well, I know that before I try this again I will be finding a way to attach the gloves to my glove box as I plan on doing liquid cultures in the very near future so I don't have to buy the same strains again and again.

yeah i ended up doing about the same thing with my glove box. just prayed the fuck out of the inside with a strong bleach water solution, let sit for 5-10 min, tossed the gloves on and went to town. it wasnt airtight but it was better than doing it out in the open i guess....getting some mycelium growth in all my jars now after about 6 days so pretty stoked, hoping no contams get in and i have 12 nicley colonized jars to case!!

best of luck and ill be around waiting for your results.

Going out tonight and picking up a heating pad to keep my jars just a bit warmer as they just don't seem to be warm enough. Found out Sunday that 4/20-4/21 is going to be the spring opener for the club I hang around so my goal is the have at least SOME mushrooms harvested by then to give out at the party. :-D

you should have some by then, thats a month + away, if all goes well you should be harvesting your first flush in 3-4 weeks
.

That's what I' hoping for! Figure with 24 jars I should end up with a couple at the least unless God forbid I had an infected syringe.

seems like i have 3 jars that arent growing like crazy which might be benificial to me as i plan on buying larger jars and doing a transfer, so if them 3 jars are bit more slow moving by the time i get everything cased and cleaned again they might be viable for transfers. prob gonna pick up 36 2 pint jars and then the 12 1/2 pint jars i have now......yeah should be serious buisness lol

Well been 5 days and nothing yet.....Lol. Not too worried it's still early yet and had no heat on the jars the first couple days. I went and bought a seedling mat yesterday to replace the heating pad I was using, hoping this will keep temps a little more consistent. Will l would post pics but there's not a whole lot to see at the moment. Hopefully by the end of the weekend things kick off. :-)

yeah that heat plays a huge role in the speed of things. building that incubator i feel was the best 25 bucks i ever spent, coming up on the end of week 2 and should have full colonization soon. i still didnt see any growth till day 6 though even in the incubator....

im really just waiting for someone else in this ring to have some mycelium growth as theres around 5 of us that all started around the same time and so far im only one...i almost feel bad posting my sucess lol

Sorry guy, you don't want to do grain to grain or any sort of transfers from the slow stuff, you want the most vigorous stock you have to expand to new material, remember you are moving genetics and if you save the slowest you are likely transfering bad genetics.

Would you clone off of your slowest, sickest plants or would you take cuttings from those strong, well developed ladies you have had your eye on since the beginning? You know, the ones that have those HUGE fan leaves and are extra green.
