First Outdoor Grow (BC, Canada) - Looking for strain suggestions

I'm not a fan of autos indoors, but they make a lot of sense outdoors in northern climates, maybe the only realistic choice in many areas.

Start a seed now and it'll be done around the beginning of Sept., long before the weather takes a turn for the worse.
Yeah, makes sense to me for my first ever grow. Good variety to learn the ropes too I figure...maybe up the challenge next year!

You’re kinda late in the game to be looking for seeds now. You may want to look locally for clones.
If you’re set on seeds Hembra Genetics got me my seeds in the same week I ordered them!

Fast finishers Ive worked with.
Northern Lights
Blueberry Muffin
Oregon Diesel
Amnesia Hashplant

Yeah. I'm guessing all these mould complaints are coming from the UK and other wet climates.
Id say its possible anywhere but yes we can get it a fair bit you have good years and bad the ones i mentioned are more resistant than average i guess its the same as anywhere tbh it depends on lattitude im 56 ish i think so someone in England at say 49 or 50 can pull off alot more what lattitude you at if u know and dont mind saying obviously?

I’m on the dry side of the cascades. We average 27” (68cm) of rain a year 45N . I’ve been growing for 20+ years and PM and other molds can def be an issue.

A nl cross from akbb nl5 specifically would be my vote for where you are and your height restrictions.
Matanuska Thunderfuck would also be a good choice in my opinion.

Lucky13 only sells regular seed. No auto, no fem. Pineapple, peanut butter, many types of skunk, diesel, hashplant... A really nice selection to choose from but no fems.

I started a couple Frostberry and Okanagan Grape plants about a month ago. Both are based on Granddaddy Purple, finish early and are indica. One of them comes with a warning that it may resemble a little tree mid/end of September. Here's hoping for females.

Light deprivation is the way to go IMO. Initiate flowering a month or so early, so you are flowering when the sun is still overhead. Any strains you want.
And a minimum of 2 harvests if you can do some supplemental lighting to get started. I ran a light Dep for several years, some of the best weed I’ve grown.

Even if I had clones, it’s still way below normal temps and very wet for this time of year. I’m sure many growers here are having to pivot with their strategy. We (usually) have hot dry summers that drag well into mid-September, so I think I’ll be ok with autos this year. I know this year is just getting familiar with the process anyway — not expecting much but will do my best!

very sunny in my area here in Canada, and dry…(49.5N) …but this year has felt very UK! Wet wet wet and cloudy. Haven’t even planted yet! Would be a waste.

ahh. You’re doing autos. I’ve only tried autos once and I wasn’t very successful, hope you do better.
I put in the ground last weekend.. I don’t worry about rain until mid-late Sept and put up a pvc with greenhouse plastic over them to finish them off without getting rained on. We’re usually good for a storm sometime between Sept15 and Oct 10Th. Otherwise we’re mostly dry in the eastern gorge May-October.

Yeah, autos. And now I’m starting to second guess my choice because they can start flowering with the slightest amount of stress. Next thing you know you have a 30cm plant budding (so I’ve heard).

Wow, in the ground? I’ll try that next year. I need more control to get a feel for the plant first, so I’m using grow bags. Maybe I’ll plant one in the ground for the heck of it, you never know.
