Yup, they'll be fine.

Of course, your ballast will need to be matched to your lamp's wattage and type (MH or HPS).

I dont know if the sockets would be the same size but my question is: Would there be any negative affects from using a 400 in a 1000W socket?

I dont actually own a 1000 watt HPS so I cant say forsure if a 400w bulb fits into a 1000w socket. But I do know that if it does, a 400w will be fine sice the fixture is made for a 1000w

Wow guys, you're all making this a little too complicated.

Just think about it...............when you're buying hoods online or at the store (which come with their own sockets), do the hoods say which size bulbs they're designed for?

Got it? Good.

I have trouble seeing it exploding because any HID light has a transformer ballast to convert the electricity. I dont think that it would be providing too much power. You might want to just make sure by contacting your local hydro store, or w/e you bought the light.

He aint talkin about the hood buddy, he's talkin about the mogul base. The Socket. He wants to know if a 400w will be fine in his 1000w mogul base. I think it would be alright, but I cant guarantee anything

I know exactly what he's talking about, buddy.

Virtually all hoods worth buying as "standalones" come with their own mogul/socket whatever the fuck you wanna call it.

As I've now said in two posts, these are universal to HID lighting of all types and wattages (both MH and HPS, and any wattages of those that you choose).

If there were less people speculating and guessing, this thread could've been two posts long and done with, and there wouldn't be so much bad advice being given.

See the attached link if anyone still has any questions (I took the liberty of pasting the relevant info below the link as well).

See the post directly above you, genius.

And no, it "probably" doesn't say what it's designed for, as it's not designed for any specific wattage.

Better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're a fool than to open it and prove them right.

I have my posts per page set to 40, so we're still on page 1 for me, guy.

And I agree; if there's anyone on this thread who clearly doesn't know what he's talking about or what he's doing, it's obviously me.

And the "chink" reference is beyond me.

Anyways, flame away, I'm over this thread - seems like the OP got his answer.

Happy growing.
