Hi all,
I'm glad to have found this community, and I hope I can become a part of it soon. This is my first grow in many years, so it's back to the basics.

Here goes -
In lieu of the infamous Mills Pride cabinets that home depot apparently doesn't carry anymore, I've decided to go with the new generic cabinet, which measures 71" (h) x 48" (w) x 20" (d). I plan to use this for a flowering chamber, with another cabinet I already have set up for my mother NLxBig bud.

My main question is, is there any way I can divide this flowering cabinet into two levels, with a SOG style grow on each? I plan to use an ebb and flow system, and I know the tub or reservior will definitely take up some of the precious height.

If the tub is twelve inches tall (which i hope allows for enough water), this leaves 59 inches, or about 28 inches for each chamber. This sounds like its cutting it pretty close. If the growing trays are each 6 inches, is two feet enough room for these "apples on sticks" as the SOG buds are described, and the lights (and room between each).

I know most of you have far more experience than me, so I really appreciate answers from any and all, even if they're just speculation.

Thanks.

Firstly, welcome and i believe you can with the space you're describing. The Sea Of Green will allow you to grow some fat bud tops in your cabinet. Place a board to separate the chambers.KEEP SMOKE ALIVE!!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad to hear an optimistic answer. What do you suppose I should do regarding lights? I would love to mess around with LEDs, especially with the height limitations, but HIDs seem to be the tried and tested way. With one light on each level, the area of each being almost 7 square feet, it seems like I should go with 250W? Maybe 400W, or is that overkill?

I'm also concerned about the distance between those hot HIDs and the bud tops. How tall do the buds grow during flowering (assuming very little veg time)? If I use air cooled hoods and decent air flow with a blower, how close can I get them to the bud tops?

For example, using entirely hypothetical numbers, if the lights take up a minimum of 8 inches, and 6 for the trays, that leaves 14 for the buds and the space between them and the lights. Will this be enough?

Also, might the temperature get too high with two 250W HPS lights, even with a 200cfm exhaust blower?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just eager to get a little experience on my side, as this is all a mystery to me right now.

Also I might consider two 6 tube T5 fixtures, which each measure 46 1/4"x 18 1/2", with a height of only 2 3/8". This would virtually eliminate the heat and height issues, but I’d imagine the reduced light output would severely affect my yield. Anyone have any experience with T5s for flowering? I know nothing outperforms HIDs, but do these fluorescents even come close (or in this case close enough)? Thanks.

Welcome, I think you could do the 250w systems in there very nicely. Especially with air cooled hoods, and some fans, and good ventilation, you should be good to go. I would love to see this all set up and ready to go. Good luck and keep us posted.
