First Real Grow, 400 MH,

Hello all.

I have two cali drama, 3 white widowxbig bud, a lemon haze, skunk, bubbliscious, pineapple express and Himalaya gold. I am two weeks in and wanted to get some feedback.

For the time being I am using a 400 MH and all of the plants seem to be doing ok. There is one scraggler but all of the rest look healthy. Rom seed to germ I used the paper towel method. Once the root started to show I put it into a FFOF/peat mix. From previous attempts I tried using straight FFOF and it scorched my plants.

I would like to SOG some of these plants, probably cali dream and wwxbb. The plants are getting big and I need some help on when and how big I should transfer them into a larger pot. I have a bunch of #1's and #2's, but for a mother would they be big enough.

I also have a 1000w setup...would this be best for clones? Mothers?
I am renting a place with two.rooms. the main room I use go weld. The room behind is.my grow room. Electricity is paid for by landlord.

any advice is welcome!!!!

Most people will transplant when they see some roots pokeing out the bottom, earlier is better than later.I would use the 1000 to flower sorta over kill for clones and moms, alotta people use florescents on em.I would tranplant to the biggest container i could use that would fit in my grow space with what ever number of plants i was planning on growing.Your plants looking pretty good to me .

wait till the landlord sees the 1k fire up lol on the electric bill that is lol kids these days
That's the beauty of also having a welding shop, lots of power!!! 220 welder and 220 plasma cutter that runs during the day(at 220 volts running at lowest setting is just over 6000w). Landlord knows that I will be using lots of power.

if you want to make a SoG out of em you should consider to switch them to 12/12 soon

beside that they look nice and healthy, if it was me, and I plan to make a SoG (Sea of green) I would repot em about now in to some 2-3 gallon pots and then flip the light in a weeks or so, nomatter what I would consider a repot now as plant canopy usually mark that size of the root net as well and them 2-3 biggest once have outgrow them pots IMO and will soon get rootbound ..

and yes the 400W seems to be perfect for them plants (size/numbers) and the 1000W for flowering (hope its a HPS ?)
for a mother I would just get a nice CLF of if you have a T5 or T8 fixture in the the shop you could use ?

I hope you land lord do know how much power you use and you pay enough to covert it ? no fun to be a land lord and see all your rent money used on electricity ..

also did you consider smell once they begin to flower ? do you have a nice ventilation with a active carbon filter on ?

BTW
Im a welder my self, did my fist 5 yeas on a shipyard, tho now a days its mostly stainless steel and Alu with Tig/Mig welding Im doing ..

The landlord and I do have an agreement that if there is a huge jump in power I would pay more. There is one meter for 20 units.

I have been thinking about ventilation but I did purchase some aquarium charcoal, however, I am not sure if its the right kind.

I am hoping between my 2 Cali Dreams a s 3 WWxBB I am hoping to have a perpetual SOG. I am thinking of taking 10 clones per week, two rows of five and adding another two rows per week. Can I get away with this using 2 1000w HPS?....

good, as long as you have a agreement, stupid to get problems over a bit of power ..

have a friend who bought a new house and with it came a hair dresser/saloon located in the building so he did take over a landlord ship so to speak (sorry for my poor English it early in the morning) but to make it short, the hair dresser had the shop for +20 years and was friends with the old owner and had a nice cheap rent with every thing included and you know over +20 years the electricity and water have become a "bit" more expensive so rent barley paid for the use of her shop, she did of course refuse to even talk rent to start with but in the end she could see it was only fair to pay for the power/water used (she did keep the cheap rent however)

agin stupid to fight over 50$ or sumthing and maybe ruin your grow operation or even your shop, better to keep him happy and to be fair ..

about ventilation, you need it, not only to keep temps down but also to provide fresh air/Co2 for your plants (remember it a liveing organism)
and you will also need some kind of odour control as they WILL stink once they begin to flower, think about it, hopefully +2 oz per plant, in fresh Buds + leaf`s aso, that will make your hole shop and backyard stink, have read stories about people growing two plants in there flat and once they began to flower they could smell it in the hallway and even outside the building !!!

IMO I would also strongly suggest a cool tube or even better a cool hood (better food print) atleast for your 1000W and specialy if you plant on running two in flowering as they do make a lot of heat

best thing I ever build (3 lunch breaks and 10 minutes here and there ;) so don't judge the "finish" to much :D it do the job)

have a old 600W HPS I use to flower with so couldn't get a cool tube or hood to fit so had to make one myself, but atleast it cost me nothing and do the job, made my temps drop from +30C this summer to 24-26C

used a old shelf from a old cabinet as it was harden glass, been running now for +3 month and still perfect tho it did make my Lumens drop from about 80K a foot away to 60-70K a foot away but also allow me to keep the light much closer now at 12-15" instead of +20 with out the hood

about the aquarium carbon, I guess you can use it I made a DIY filter once, useing the active carbon from a cooker ventilation replacement filter from my "walmart"

did work, and you can also buy 10KG buckets with carbon online, but really, a filter is`t that expensive and do the job 99,9% and with multiply plants and a 1000W or two I would suggest a big nice 6" filter with a 6" ventilation on as a minimum for your room and one 1000W HPS if you want to run one sting with two 1000W HPS and odour/heat control/fresh air/co2 I would suggest you to get a nice 8" ventilation, maybe with speed control

this might illustrate it for you

vent.jpg

tho if you want to fit a cool tube/hood you should add it in between the filter and vent

I used the paper towel method, except I put them in some gladware containers. The planted in half peat half FFOF.

my concern now is smell...I am going to have a busy holiday getting something built.

I went an extra day without watering, they were quite dry. I watered a little bit then put them in larger pots. I noticed that my California Dream lower leaves were doing this. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what it is?
