First Time 'Caregiver' - closet/light lowdown?

Hello all,

I am a little new to this game. I haven't smoked in years but recently my mother was diagnosed with Chronic Nausea and Fibromyalgia (sp?), and of course a good treatment for the symptoms of these 2 are, you guessed it, MMJ. So, my mother never having tried it did get her hands on some and said it was 100% effective, and she could Teach normally and still do her homework and schooling with no ill side effects. Unfotruntley she has no time on her hands, and doesn't want to have to keep buying it. Enter curious, past grower-experience son.

So, what I am working with is a 9' tall, By 2.5' wide, by 3' Deep closet I am thinking of using. My concerns :

1) Smell - I know there is a sticky for this and I'll use that, but from what I've read forcing air through the carbon filter and outside is a pretty good way of killing it.

2) Heat - For growing and clones, I plan to use Warm and Cold Florescent lights and a high powered sodium for flowering. The issue is the heat from the HPS lamp, does anyone know a way to rectify this. Maybe a different lamp with the same flowering results that runs cooler, or maybe water cooled HPS? If so, anyone have a link to the lamp.

3) Humidity - I'm using a hydroponic system (see figure 2), but I really don't want my closet to get mold and crumble to the floor.. any ideas?

4) Seeds - The shit my mom got, and granted I haven't smoked since I was a teen but.. I did smoke with her (couldn't pass up that opportunity!). Now, either her stuff was EXTREMELY weak, or MMJ has really changed since I was a kid.. And I hope it's not the ladder. Is it safe to buy online? Kinda Marc Emery paranoid over here.

Anyway, that's about it. Any help is appreciated.

Also, In a previous life I'm sure I was a cross between an Engineer and an Artist.. I wasn't so lucky this go around. Be honest towards the drawing, I apologize if it looks like my dog drew it up:

Using a carbon filter is the best way to kill smell IMO. There are other options but carbon scrubbers will clean the air and still leave your flowers their natural scent.

Your flouros won't need to much cooling, but your HID will. You should try to get a 400w to run coolly. You can either air cool or water cool. I've never tried to water cool a bulb, but it does work well for some people. If you are going to use an air cooled hood than you need to exhaust the heat outside of the room, and you should scrub it as well.

3) Humidity - I'm using a hydroponic system (see figure 2), but I really don't want my closet to get mold and crumble to the floor.. any ideas?
If your carbon scrubber doesn't move enough air to keep the humidity in check there are always dehumidifiers. You can run everything on a environmental controller if you want.

May I ask why you decided to go with hydro?

4) Seeds - The shit my mom got, and granted I haven't smoked since I was a teen but.. I did smoke with her (couldn't pass up that opportunity!). Now, either her stuff was EXTREMELY weak, or MMJ has really changed since I was a kid.. And I hope it's not the ladder. Is it safe to buy online? Kinda Marc Emery paranoid over here.
I'm not sure where "over here" is, but in general seed orders are pretty safe.

'Over Here' being in Northern Oregon! I guess my decision on the Hydro systems came from mostly curiosity surrounding it. While soil planting sounds fine, I have heard nothing but amazing results with a hydro system as far as a turn out goes. Also I already have the nutrient system and Ph+/- for keeping the reservoir correct.

Is water cooling the lamps tough?

You need a resevoir and pump to circulate the water. It is about as tough as it gets.

Imo Your sketch is ideal for the space it represents.. Get a high power exhaust fan plus carbon filter .using 6" or8"(depends on flange sizes) hole bit cut Exhaust in the ceiling, cut cool air intake near closet floor, attach exhaust fan plus filter to ceiling exhaust hole blowing out hot ceiling air(and consequently pulling cool floor air in). Attach clip on oscillator fans on every shelf.allow some way for air to pass thru closet from ground(cool air) to ceiling exhaust(hot air).. Use ducting. either paint walls white or cover with reflective material. And you are good to go. Good luck ay

I guess my issue is I don't really understand the concept.. Maybe I have to buy special bulbs to do this, but usually water with a bulb = explosion :(. Again I am sure I am WAAAY off..

You circulate the water in a tube around the bulb. You need a LARGE resevoir and some way to cool down the water along with a pump... Not going to fit inside your closet ;]
