First time grower, when to flower?

So, I'm on day #28. All my plants are in the 9-12 inch range. I measured them 5 days ago and they were in the 6-8.5 inch range. I've got some potential monsters on my hands.


My question is, when should I cut the light down to 12/12. I want the highest yield possible, but I'm afraid of my plants growing into the light. My grow box is 8ft x 4 ft x 2.5.



I don't have a cooling device directly on my light, no cool tube, nothing, so I don't want my plants to get more than six feet tall (Nirvana Seed Bank declares that the NY Power Diesel Strain is "high" growing strain, and I have four of them).

nice job on that cabinet! It depends on how many you want to grow in the box. You could easily fill the thing with a single plant. Based on how they look now (good, bushy) you are going to have a lot more trouble with width than height. if you want to grow all 5 or 6 or however many you have I'd start flowering in a day or two..You are still gonna have trouble with them being too wide imo. I have 2 plants filling a 4x4x6. Height has not been a major issue yet (6th week --had to lst in week 2, but just a tiny tiny bit).

Move your light all the way up, measure from the bottom of the light to the top of your pots. divide this by 3 and that will give you the height of your plants when you should switch to flower.

I worked hard on that box and can't wait to modify it so I can have a veg and flower room. I was worried about width. I've got seven plants in there. If they're all female, I'm fucked, right? Should I go with the scrog method, starting training them tomorrow?

Your plants will grow 2-3x their height during flower.

What do you plan on doing?

I don't know, maybe flowering in the next day or two. Trying to figure if I should go SCROG, train them for as long as I can, and the cut the light back. Another thing I've considered, if they'll be extremely bushy, cutting light off from the bottom, is to purchase one of these:



A 50w HPS, to mount on the floor, so the underside of the canopy will get something and those bud won't be wasted. I don't know. KEEP THE SUGGESTIONS COMING! I NEED SOME INPUT!!
