You just should have filled that cup up further. You'll need to transplant soon anyways to give the roots more room to grow.

I'm not at all familiar with that organic miracle grow tbh. I don't like that it says "and fertilizer" in the ingredients. That's awfully vague. I feel like they just slipped some of the same time release stuff into an organic mix. But I have a deep seated mistrust of that company haha.

Personally I'd go with that new soil you found at Ace and transplant to a bigger container. You can try sticking it out with the organic MG and being more careful watering of course, I just don't trust, whether the bag is black or not.

Also, I feel like www.growweedeasy.com may be a helpful site for you.

There's a few growers that use it at least somewhat successfully but most struggle. The nutrients are released when the soil is watered. Most new growers over water their plants. The result is often nute burnt plants.

Changing soils should help but remember the damaged leaves won't heal, your just hoping the new growth does better.

As for what to use, there's lots of options. Fox Farms happy frog and ocean forest are both good. A lot of people like ProMix but that doesn't have as much nutrients in it so you have to feed it immediately. Roots Organics is good. Coast of Maine potting blends. Basically any good organic potting mix that doesn't contain time release fertilizers will work.
This says it best OP. You can get huge plants with that soil but it takes the patience to wait for it to dry out between waterings.

Okay I’m on day 11 just now switch to 18/6 schedule and it was going well until my plant began to have these yellow spot then it turn kinda brownish I think I haven’t fed it at all using microgro soil and these just appear day 10 what is that on the photos I tried searching up but I’m still not sure
Whenever I use Miracle-Gro I usually mix it with something else and do a 50/50 blend, but they should be alright there tough plants

I'm not a soil grower but from your pics, it is a clear case of nutrient deficiency and not a nutrient burn, specifically a Phosphorus deficiency.

I assume you took those pics with the grow lights off. If everything is optimized and it seems like it, your temp is good and you have good lighting then the limiting factor in your case would be the nutrients. Your new growth at the top is literally sucking the mobile nutrient elements from the lower leaves. Either your root system isn't established enough to uptake the required nutrients or your lighting is powerful and it forces the plant to grow vigorously while it can't cope by uptaking the nutrients fast enough. In my hydroponic system, I would usually increase the nutrients if faced with a situation like this.

Ugh. Why even spew all of that out? I really doubt its a phosphorus deficiency, and even if it is, it would likely be caused by a pH issue, because miracle grow has plenty of phosphorus for a plant that size and age. The last thing OP should do is feed more right now.

And why would you assume he had his grow dialed in? He's said nothing about his lights. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that OPs not hammering this girl with a 1000w HID light.

I'm sorry if I come across as an asshole, but it drives me nuts when new members come in and start handing out advice before they post anything about their own grow or experience. All this looks like is you copy and pasted some shit from elsewhere.

You readily admit your not a soil grower, don't give advice on soil grows.

Well yes, you surely came across as an asshole but I admit you have a point here! I am a new member but I have been growing for about 3 years now and I know some people in here have been growing for more than like a 100 years, I know :D

I can assure you it is not a copy paste. I assumed he has good lighting because of a few reasons, his plant looks healthy other than this browning issue, it has good growth for an 11 days old plant and it is stubby and not stretching by any means which might indicate that a good amount of light was used on it. So there is my reasoning for assuming he had his light dialed in.

Now what made me comment on his post? It is because I struggled with this same issue at the very beginning of my growing experience. These same damn brown spots on the lower leaves. At the time I had everything optimized, my lighting, the temp, the PH and the PPM (or that is what I thought at the time). I tried every damn adjustment and nothing worked. As all beginners, at the time I stuck with the "beginner" recommended nutrient concentrations which was exactly my problem. I doubled, yes doubles, my PPM and the problem went away and didn't see it ever again.

So what I'm saying is, if everything is optimized, I would assume that this is a nutrient deficiency and not a PH issue. But anyway, if it will make you happy, I will stop commenting in this thread.

MG has been getting the shaft for a long time. Before all these companies came up with soil specifically tailored for cannabis, what do you think people were using.... you guessed it, MG. Now of course other soil mediums were used back then too, but the point is MG works, and I can personally vouch for it. Depending on the type of slow release time you have will determine how you go about the whole grow. I’ve used both the 3 and 6 month time release. I prefer the 3 month because I can bottle feed my own Nutes during flower. In the event you have the 6 month, be ready for toxicity at some point during flower because MG has lots of N ( nitrogen ), which you obviously don’t want during flower, but it isn’t a deal breaker, nor will it destroy your plant. Usually during flower I use a phosphorus booster because MG lacks in that area. That’s the only bottle nute I fed, and the plants came out ok every time. Since your plants are still small, they don’t require anything but water. They will show signs of toxicity because the soil is providing nutrients in the veg stage that aren’t needed, but don’t sweat it. This is how I grew with MG successfully. Hope this helps in the event you plan on sticking to MG as your soil of choice.

Couldnt have said it better.

It's like soilless growers forget all the buffering and built in nutrient reserves soil has when they say "it needs cal/mag" or "it's a deficiency" in seedlings.

ALSO, while I'm quoting you regardless.. if you read a bit further down on the MG organic, it lists the ingredients in "fertilizer" as feather meal, soybean meal, bone meal, and sulfate of potash.

I'd still air on the side of caution with any MG products, but looking at the ingredients, and where they're derived, it doesnt look terrible. I'll be opening a perpetual journal soon, I might run a MG organic vs my normal Sunshine mix #4 with some clones and see how they do

I definitely missed that on the bag! Thanks for pointing it out. It actually doesn't seem terrible. It may very well be fine. I'd definitely be interested in seeing the results of a grow off.

OP may have other issues. I have to admit my ignorance to the existence of the organic MG. I just assumed it was the traditional stuff.

Funny enough, because of this thread I wound up reading a whole Forbes article about the CEO of Miracle Grow (and Scotts) and how several of his board members have resigned over his instance on pushing hard into the marijuana industry. The rest of his board members resigned because he quoted Django Unchained repeatedly around other employees and he had to settle a lawsuit with an employee over it! Crazy bastard flies around in a jet named "F-Bomb" with his German Shepherd.

Ya, as I first started, there are definitely some growers who do fine with it. But as you said you need to plan around it and most new growers don't, over water and cook their plants. That being said, I didn't even know organic MG existed so I guess I need to start clarifying with people which they are using.

Also, while there weren't all these cannabis specific potting soils around back in the day I don't think MG was as ubiquitous as you suggest. Apparently most of their growth rode on the back of the success of Home Depot and Walmart in the 2000s despite having been founded in the early 40s. I learned that today though.

And I still don't like how they make their traditional fertilizers. There's all kinds of harmful byproducts for the environment.

Alright, you seem like an alright dude. Just need to be careful telling growers in hot soils to feed more nutrients if your not 100%. It is very different then hydro. There's been a lot of troll jobs lately so I may have overreacted. Also I hadn't smoked yet. :bigjoint:

Yes..plastic with holes on the bottom to. Something a little bigger fresh soil plus the soil you have. Spray bottle with just water. Go from there. Some may or not survive, js but it gives you a better chance.

Thank you. It wasn't my intention to derail the guy and you should really go for a smoke :D.

I would have liked your reply but as a "new member" I can't react to posts yet! You and your damn forum rules :wall:

I’m 40 yrs old and I was using MG to grow in high school before switching over to hydro. That was well over 20 yrs ago. My father in law opted to not go the MG route and used vermiculite and perlite and he’s 60. He was growing before I even knew what cannabis was. So I’m pretty sure MG was around, and used. What other option did people have back in the day other than dirt they found in their back yards? I’m sure Home Depot and Walmart helped kick start the marketing of MG on a major scale, but it was there and available before their assistance kicked in. Maybe it wasn’t as widely available in rural areas, but any flowering/potting store carried it, that’s how I found it, it was just a matter of knowing what it was. I can’t speak on what people used or not, all I can say is MG ain’t new to the block, and if I was using it as a kid that didn’t know anything about growing, I’m sure the elders were way ahead of me.

I’m running currently just led 35 watt Honeywell can I use this lighting throughout veg stage atleast I was thinking using sunlight during flowering or mid veg instead any advice?
