First time planning

I am not new to growing plants, just growing my fav herb, first I plan to start off small In my closet or a box that I will make (3 length 2 width 4 height ) with like 3-5 plants.

Sort of like the attached picture.

Anyways, for a first time grower in the planning stage, would that be a good setup?

What are your thoughts and opinion, and don't be light, tell me what you really think about this for a first timer.

LMAO! Plants going to lift weights and then make Weed Porn! Depending on what size you want them to be I would transplant them into bigger pots. You can get 5gal buckets at lowes or homedepot for about 2.88 that work great. CFL's are fine for a micro grow just for fun. But if you want good bud upgrade to a hps. Here is a $100 400watt Econo 400 Watt HPS - Inside Sun Since you are new let me advise don't use Miracle grow products especially their soil. Fox Farm Nutes are generally considered the best. Their website has a page where you can find their stuff sold near you http://www.foxfarmfertilizer.com/ Good luck

you dont NEED a 400w bulb to grow good weed
it certainly helps and can certainly increase yield but need isnt the right word
I attended oaksterdam university and one of the required text books is how to grow using only cfl's
it wont get you a 1g:1w yield but its not horrible

Considering this is your first ever set up its not too bad
I would reccommend using pots of the same size to try to minimize hot spots and an attempt at uniform growing conditions.
It also seems as if the light closest to the front is not reaaly being utilized to its fullest try bringing it closer to the other light.
Also cfl's run cool compared to HPS/mh lights so you can get them a lil closer.
The closer the light the more lumens per Square foot = more growth

Hope that helps
Peace

the 400w hps would be for an upgrade later right, i doubt it fit in the box that i would make, although i could make it bigger and as for foxfarm, the nearest store is like over 80 miles away for me. /cry

If your talking in feet . So 3 feet long and 2 feet wide. With a 4 foot cap. Should prolly go 3 gallon buckets. 6 3 Gallon buckets. 2 week of veg most likely...

You could get a 400. 400 does a 2.5x2.5 coverage but with the walls so close and with reflective paint it'll do fine. Air cooled light of course. With that many plants it's gonna be pure canopy so...Maybe try fimming early then grow them out and cut all below canopy branches. A scrog netting might help you better arrange the canopy.

Now if you're gonna do CO2 you have the cool the light with outside air and seal the box. If you're not, just attach ducting to one side of the light. Cut a small hole into a wall near the bottom of the box for intake.

I advise growing in coco peat. Hydroponics is much easier imo. It's all about the numbers which you can test. Test pH and EC of water after adding ratio'd nutes. Water plants. Done!

Well, the nutrients I will have to get more info on. I have no idea what ratios to use.
Veg 3-1-2
Flower 1-3-2

NPK

If you do go the hydro DynaGro is good. Also check out there 0-0-2 Potassium Silicate for increasing stem density. They also sell the above ratios.

Plant Success by Plant Revolution Inc. Is also a good product. Contains beneficial bacteria to help increase root mass.

Home and Garden also has some good products. Check out their Rooting Excellerator and their Multi-Enzyme. If you plan on doing clones the first is a must and the second is an always across the board.

I also like Dutchmasters Liquid Light w/ Penetrater as a Foliar Spray.

Listed in order of importance top down.

Nitrogen parts per million
Phosphorus parts per million
Potassium parts per million

The above elements are Macro Nutrients.

It appears you have much to learn. I advise going out and buying a couple books. The first a broad book on Cannabis. I.E. Jorge Cervantes Medical Marijuana Grow Bible and then something a little more specific and textbook like Integral Hydroponics.

Good Luck bro!
