Hi All,

I am currently vegging my first grow in a grow tent. I am using T5 florrecent grow lights from htg supply for the veg cycle and will be switching to 400W HPS for flowering. After about three weeks of growth my plants have lots of leaves but are not very tall. IS this common? m I have the lights currently only 3 inches away from the plants. Should I put them farther away to increase plant growth size to make them taller?

Also how far should I keep the 400W HPS light from the plants. It has a cooled reflective hood on it also from htg.

why are you using florescent lights when you got a 400watt hps light? Did you grow from seed? I would change to the 400 watt first then raise the light up to where it covers all of your plants then stop. Your only 3 weeks into the grow so don't worry about how tall it is just take good care of the plant and make sure it is healthy and it will grow. how many plants are you growing?:bigjoint:

you should keep your 400 watter about 12 - 22 inches away from the top of your plants! I have mine at about 15 inches away. WhaT kind of T5 did you get I just got the 4 foot 4 bulb one, its in the mail! I was wondering how you like it, if its the same one i got! And if you want your plant to grow taller you can raise your light higher, but I wouldn't! I like short bushy plants!

Yes I have been growing from seed. The reason I am growing under the floros is that I have two different tents. One for vegging and one for flowering. I currently have 8 plants in the veg tent and was going to keep them in there until they reached about 12 inches tall then switch to flowering with the HPS. Are the floros no good for vegging?

Flouros are great from seed to about 7-10 days. I find that the seedlings stay compact, firm and are less likely to stretch under a flouro. But after that, def go to the 400, IMO.
