Rescuers Rainbow Bridge Prayer
I saw this and thought it would be nice to have printed here
I do not know who wrote it so I hope it is ok to print Rescuer's Rainbow Bridge

Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All of the recent arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had been waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway leading to The Bridge to watch

It wasn't long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung low and tail dragging. The other animals, the ones who had been there for a while, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this happen far too often.

He approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with no sign of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other animals waiting at The Bridge, this animal had not been restored to youth and made healthy and vigorous again. As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of the other animals watching him. He knew he was out of place here and the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be. But, alas, as he approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who apologized, but told him that he would not be able to pass. Only those animals who were with their people could pass over Rainbow Bridge.

With no place else to turn to, the elderly animal turned towards the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other animals like himself, also elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to The Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting.

One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the animals that had been there for awhile to explain it to him.

"You see, that poor animal was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue just as you see him now, an older animal with his fur graying and his eyes clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only the love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence. Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort him across The Bridge."

The first animal thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?" As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the gloom lifted. Approaching The Bridge could be seen a single person and among the older animals, a whole group was suddenly bathed in a golden light and they were all young and healthy again, just as they were in the prime of life.

"Watch, and see.", said the second animal. A second group of animals from those waiting came to the pathway and bowed low as the person neared. At each bowed head, the person offered a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. The newly restored animals fell into line and followed him towards The Bridge. They all crossed The Bridge together.

"What happened?"

"That was a rescuer. The animals you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of her work. They will cross when their new families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor animals that they couldn't place on earth across The Rainbow Bridge."

"I think I like rescuers", said the first animal.

"So does GOD", was the reply.

Aye, you should never get a pet from a pet store, always adopt from an animal shelter. If you quit buying from stores, breeders that supply them will quit breeding and there will be less animals without homes. Every pet I have ever had, I adopted from a shelter or found on the street.

Sorry, that wasn't really related to your first post.

Actually, it was. Overbreeding and breed snobs have helped to create a problem. (no offense to breed snobs, but it is a fact.)

Please, vent away here, such views are welcome by me.

I have a real problem with horse slaughter, and while I have both a stud and a mare I do not breed, not with the overpopulation problem we have now. I have rescued a few in my day, (can't right now, with the high price of hay and grain I can barely afford the ones I have), and when I can I will be rescuing again, tho I have developed a real fondness for mustangs.

I rescued one of my dogs Chester. My dream one day is to open up a dog rescue haven. A place for all the dogs people don't want to come and just be a dog. Lots of land, water and forest for them to run and play. :weed:

That is so awesome, Chiceh, I have the same dreams for mustangs.

Hook me up with a rott or a mastiff, wuddya? I REALLY want Hagrid's dog in the Harry Potter movies, what a big, scary marshmellow.

I was a vet tech and groomer for years, I HAFTA have a big ol' lovable creampuff. Not little yappers, tho. I was turned against them cuz they hated me for shovin thermometers up thier butt (not that I blame them.)

Puff that was really nice, thank you. I do love animals, I know it is apparent to a lot of folks out here and I am sure I have been labeled by some...I don't mind...I do love all animals. They do for me what no human has ever been able to do....love me totally unconditionally, so I do the same for them....One day you will read about me, I will run a rescue for all animals. I plan to dedicate my life to this when my boys are done with college. God bless the animals.

Sorry, but if G*D's intent was to bless the animals, we wouldn't be here, since we are the problem.

Despite the emotional reparte, it pleased me to read it. Thanks....

I don't question God's intent....I just live my life the way I believe it should be lived. In the end I am sure I will know God's intent, but as for now I don't and neither do you.

It is all my vehicle to becoming God myself...... Heretic, ya know.

Glad it was liked. Goddamn thing made me cry when I first read it, then made my daughter bawl like a baby when I read it to her.

Dragons don't cry. Much.

Nice. We have four dogs. Three are rescued dogs. One a three legged chocolate lab from the shelter. He still had the staples and stitches from the amputation. The 2nd we got before it was given to a animal lab testing facility. The 3rd one adopted us. It showed up at our place starving and tic infested. The 3rd one goes outside with us without a leash and he never tries to run away. Because of that, even the vet says that animal picked us to be his family.
The wife and I always joke about us running the towns unofficial animal rescue leage...as it seems everyones dog that gets loose always seems to end up at out place.

We used to be that way, specially about cats. But now we live on a horrible highway, and I have buried 4 cats and made the last an indoor cat (but she has never gone near the road). But I can't get a dog till I get underground fencing, the road is really bad, lotsa high speed, trucks and stuff.

I think maybe you should go legit and you can take certain expenses off on taxes, things you are paying for anyway. Horse rescues are like that, I don't know if there is a difference from pet to livestock, tho.

I have rescued a few of them, too. One of them was a family member and we rescued a few times, before we finally had to cut the cord......
