pistils will die and be replenished throughout the flower cycle.. dont stress if your plant spits out some red hairs here and there.. they will be replaced with bright white ones within a few days.. if you spray your plant or bump the buds it can make them turn red also...
A bunch of buds that are directly near my AC vent are turning a dead brown color on the tips, also turning down there and sorta shriveling (check pics).

I've been stressing about it. It almost looks like it could be mold, or dying mold spores from when I sprayed serenade (anti mold/mildew).

Anything that had mold starting on it, even if I couldn't see it at the time, dies back when I spray the serenade. Well now I water it down much more and it's not as harsh.

What'dya think?

I'm so susceptible to that black sooty mold. I think there is something in my water. Even though it comes out of the tap with less than 250 ppm and a pretty neutral ph, I've started using only R/O water. What could I put in my tap water to neutralize the mold spores or whatever is in my water or my pipes or whatever?

Thanks

yeah.. you can.. assuming that the room you have them in is the room you are going to use from start to finish... then you will have to flower them before they get to big anyways... so you will have more than enough room..

now if you plan on vegging them out for a few weeks and then flower you may have issues... but i wouldnt worry about it...
DUDE! I don't totally know your specific situation, but if you know what strain you're growin be careful when you plan your space if it's short...or even better, be careful when you plan your strain. I started some Super Silver Haze too late without researching the strain and I'm paying for it. Thread starter warned of this in first post. Sorry buddy, I'll let you have your thread back now.

hey bro.. let me see if i cant figure something out for ya...

now i guess the biggest thing that would change the answer i am about to give is if i'm wrong by what you meant by a/c vent... i am assuming you mean where the a/c blows into the grow... and not near the exhaust vent.. so for this answer i am going on that basis.. and if im wrong, tell me, and i'll re think...

if the plants near the a/c are turning moldy looking, its because, more than likely, they are.... a/cs pump cool air into the room (duh).... the cool air is super moist.... if you've ever ran an a/c cool for a while you will see the condensation on the vents... this moisture will be constant on your buds during anytime the a/c is on... after so long.... it can/may/will grow mold... typically it will be a black mold....

its never a good idea to have the a/c close to your plants for that reason.. that is why most a/cs double as humidifiers... if it wasnt for the humidifier in the a/c rooms using them would likely have condensation on the walls and such...

if you have the space moving the plants away from the a/c will help... you may need to spray them again with an anti-fungicide... the key to spraying without issues is that have a strong exhaust/ventilation system... pulling as much of the cool moist air out of the room while the sprays dry is a must...

if you want to add anything to your water to kill anything in it, use hydrogen peroxide... the stronger the concentration the better... a couple cap fulls per gallon of water... and let it sit for 20 minutes or so after you add it to let it work...

not a prob.. anytime a ? can be answered with a post i've already posted it helps.. its unavoidable that it will happen that i answer the same question many times.. but oh well.. the less that the same thing gets repeated the better for my sanity.. bongsmilie

so how big should i let them get before i flower?
based on the size of the grow (as it appears in the picture).. i would say that you will want to flower after they get about 4 or 5 inches tall.... they will double to triple in size during flower... so you want to make sure you will have space for them all...

if they are mixed seeds you may have to pull some males.. which would free up a little space...

but the more space you give them the larger they will flower... MJ grows somewhat based on the available space... keeping plants crammed together will hurt final yields....

if you can, you should take clones, and use mature clones in that size room... this way you could start 12/12 as soon as they root.. thus maximizing yield and optimizing your space and efficiency...

Tanks so much! I'm learning so much from you and this thread!! Respect!

:blsmoke:
thank you r1f... im glad i can spread my knowledge around... as i've said many times feel free to post anything you have ?s on...

Thanks so much dude! Awesome thread. Rept

Ya mean like this? lol I think I'm gonna move another outside. I started with 6 in here, but when I was delayed in starting 12/12 I knew I'd have to cut it down to at least four and move two outside. Now I'm gonna have to move another prob. You think I could/should finish all four there? I'm on day 23 of 70.

you are prolly better off just leaving them go as they are now... trying to move/transplant at this time will cause way to much stress on them to be worth it...

well they're strait indica and all female and they are all about 2 maybe 3 inches and if i flower them when they're 5 inches there wont be much of a yield.
the truth is you will get more of a yield if you flower them earlier than later... and here is why...

the space i saw looked to be about 2ft wide x 1ft deep x 2. tall approx right?? with the bulbs on the outside edges of the box.... again its hard to tell for sure from the one pic.. so i am assuming a few things...

if you wait until the plants are, lets say, 8 inches tall, and then flower them, the available space will for sure fill in.. so much so that the lights will more than likely be surrounded by foliage... this means the light they put off wont be able to penetrate almost at all.. so the flowers towards the center of the space wont get much light thusly producing little buds and a diminished harvest...

even if you have a light on the top it will still cause the same problem... it will be less of an issue.. but still somewhat of a problem..

starting to flower them when they are smaller.. say 12/12 at 6 to 8 inches... will fill in the space without over crowding the lights and each other... the light will be able to penetrate the plants better... give more light to all the plants.. and thus increasing yields...

now... typically i would not recommend doing this... but with a space so small you wont be looking at a huge harvest anyways.. so maximizing what you have becomes key... if you train them (LST mainly) you can veg them a little longer and allow them to mature a little more.. but you'll still want to flower sooner than later to keep plant size and the space issues in check...

you would do well to work with mature clones at some point.. that way the yield will be that of a mature plant (relative to the size of the clone when you flower)... also going with 2 or 3 plants and giving them more room to grow will help too...

to be exact my grow tent is a little over 5 feet tall an 3 foot wide and proly about 1 or 2 feet deep, could i still yield fairly well with the five plants, sorry i shouldve done some measurements.

the height of the room is less of an issue than the floor space..

at 3 x 2 you have 6 square feet of space...

thats a little over 1 square foot a plant...

if you have heavy indicas then they will end up bushier than taller... at 8 inches going into 12/12, you could end up with a 16 inch tall plant thats fills out that area..

it will be a little tight.. or rather it could be a little tight.. but you should be able to work it... but you'll still want to flower before they get too tall.. and you may have to do some training of them after you start flowering...

ok, so with the 5 plants at 8 inches going into flower all in 8 inch pots with 6 square foot of space i'll end up with 16 inch plants, and what do you mean training them?

yes.. you should end with about 16 inch tall plants... thats assuming all your plants double in size...

on the grow i am currently doing my plants didnt double.. well a couple did.. but not all of them... so they may be a little shorter than 16 inches.. this just means some additional space..

and by training i mean tieing them down... not literally.. but more... well... ill post a couple pics of my girls that i am doing it too right now...

basically its tieing them away from one another so that you give them as much space as you can while keeping the canopy even...

so.. i guess training isnt the best word to use in this instance... some of the branches get tied down so to control vertical height... some get tied and secured to the sides... basically its just securing the branches in place (however needs to be done) to keep canopy even, give space if branches are crowding, and can actually increase light penetration...

im having a bit of an off day.. so i hope im explaining things well..

no... they shouldnt... prolly about 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the ones you see...

i did a lot of super cropping to them as they were vegging so that they would bush out like they do... i have about 40 or so square feet and only room for 12 plants (only 9 survived.. 2 died and 1 male :spew::spew::spew:) so i have to make them as big as i can..

the reason i only have 12 plants is because after this grow i am going to expand and have a separate 63ish square foot flower room... so i will be on a 60 day rotation.. while i have girls flowering for those 60 days i will also have girls vegging for that long... so by the end of the 60 day veg they will be very large individual plants... and ill need all the space i can have...

i could run more plants and veg less time if i kept mothers to cut clones from.. but instead of dealing with that headache i plan on just using the limbs i cut off when i lollipop and root them for clones...

still, 3/4 the size of yours is still pretty cool, even half is still good enough and now thanx to your knowledge and help my next grow will be 10 times greater than this, thank you, oh, and if theres any problems i will inform you and keep you updated.

Excellent Thread: I of course have ???? but I am in flower on first grow, made mistakes, out of 15 plants ended with four females. Males were loped as soon as sex was determined. 4x48 flouros 2 are grow spectrum 2 are normal shop and 4 75 watt = @ 27watts each added when males removed. Plants are 2.5-3 foot in size and near a lollipop stage. From bag seed unknowns. Early June start indoor grow...1 fem started outside and brought in at 4 weeks too many people too near, dogs etc. Soil using black strap molasses 2tbls per gallon alternating with water for nutes and diluted ammonia for N and Spring water at 6.5 PH. I did not know of this site at start and was just going to experiment as I don't have access to a seller I trust. Miracle grow indoor pot soil unamended other than flushing and baking to kill larvae. My yield is going to be low as far as I can tell now but you sure have given me more info in one post than I have read all summer long on riu (My name for riu is RIP) as in lets get ripped. But I digress I'm an old toker Vet. If I could rep I would, You deserve a sticky on this one. My grow is an example of a budget grow and no real plan. Just make it up as I go. Thanks so much for your time and knowledge SS420 you done good!

i appreciate the thanks... so thank you... bongsmilie

it sounds like you were on the right track with what you were doing... just needed a little more information.. if you have ?s please feel free to ask.. its better to prepare for what's coming then wait until the last minute... if you are planning to grow it may also help you to plan things out better in the future..

i do agree it is hard to find reliable sources for good buds.. i am fortunate to third party know other growers in my area so if i run out i always have excess to other safe stuff.. even if you dont get a huge harvest, what you do have is better than nothing... and what makes it even better is that you grew it... i've always enjoyed smoking my own stuff, whether it was mediocre or amazing, much more than other peoples stuff...

again, thanks for the kind words... please feel free to ask about anything you may want to know or have questions about..
