Shes beeen looking great all the way thru. Now the buds have these funny sideshoots..
Any ideas? Normal just the type of genes?
There's plenty of meat in the middle of the buds, these r just growing out the sides of what appeared to be almost finished buds

The buds looked like they were almost done, those popped out and now they're swelling.. This is my first grow with that strain so wasn't sure, she's a beautiful girl though. Topped out bout 7ft indoors after being topped early.

Yeah...I never worry too much...I mean lighter parts dry faster than the dense parts anyway...and the fluff is easier to grind or crumble...so whatevs...lol

that is clearly foxtailing. When the calyxs stack on top of each other in very thin buds coming off the main bud that is foxtailing. Shit looks fire!

When they first started i was gonna go ahead and chop, but then they started getting fat too. Isaid the hell with it, the buds are good and dense just look funny.. According to MoC their lab tests were 22to24%. But we all know how that is..lol

I grew some trainwreck awhile back and it built the same sort of nubs, and it smoked just fine nubs and all. Here's a shot of a small trimmed bud. (its more work to trim around that's for sure)

These went about 7wks in with nice fat hard nugs. Then the shoots popped out bout an in now they're fattening up. i bet that was a bitch to trim..gotta admit though, they sure look funky..

Foxtailing happens due to heat stress. I now have 2 proven example of this. 1- GDP and White/Fire grow in a room with weak AC and left for a vacation, so they got close to the 1K lights=foxtails on the white/fire the hybrid of 2 great OG strains. OG's are bomb but sensative to this and other issues due to their natural habitat (trace the origin back- they like the cold)
2- I'm battling a mite problem on a multi-strain grow right now and had to pick the coldest day of the week to hut everything off to p-bomb.... 87F I now have the beginning of foxtails on a few of my 8 strains.... I like to experiment with issues to see if I can figure out the right way to treat them (not the mites though... lil fuckers suck)

Think about it- bud are like reproductive organs for the plant.... check the difference between your nut sack in the heat and the cold... make sense?

Strain does matter- African sativa is ok with heat. Cold mountain Afgan no bueno... It doesn't affect the smoke, but does affect people's viewpoint of how good it is by the look. It' becoming more acceptable now though.

I let you guy know if I figure a fix in the early stages.

Peace

I agree completely. One thing that is helpful to help prevent that is to give more potassium after 4 weeks as potassium helps to regulate temperature and the opening and closing of stomata. Also, a clear rootzo.e reduces foxtailing as a plant can uptake more nutes more easily. (less is more theory/fact) giving potassium silicate to the plant during vedge and first two weeks of 12/12 will also help, but keep the doses small as silica can do irreperable harm when there is too much. Dont let your pots dry out either as this will cause your plants body temperature to rise, then foxtail. These are just my observations.
