Fresh Aloe - What do you use it for and how?

I just picked up about 10 aloe plants on clearance and will be going through and cleaning them up, splitting them, and repotting them. I am bound to have lots of leaves that get removed and would like to know what are some good options for uses for my other plants.

How do you collect the gel? How do you store it? How do you use it on your plants?

Scrape the gel off with a spoon and store it in a baby food jar (or something sealible)and keep it in the fridge..
Its great for starting clones

I blend some up and add it to teas.

When cloning plants, I cut off a decent sized aloe leaf, set it on a paper towel for a bit to let the yellow stuff drain out, then stab the cut ends of clones directly into the cut end of the aloe leaf as far as they will go. I really don't know if it makes a difference but that's what I do.

You'll find a lot of different application rates, but I've used the gel in the tsp to tablespoon range(per gal), great in foliars too at around 5 ml per liter. A stronger concentration helps grow nice roots with clones/seedlings. I've tried dipping clones in the gel too instead of rooting hormone, and honestly I can't remember how well that did for me...sorry!

I’m using it as a wetting agent for foliar.

All great options for this amazing plant. Cloning with aloe looks something like this for me.
I always take my leafs that are leftover and just cut i to chunks and mix with whatever needs to be watered that day. Squeeze and mix em and strain the solids. Not too scientific about it Personally.

I like to water my aloe once a month or so. And give it a drenxh that one watering

I've never tried it myself, but a friend of mine who has aloe vera growing in his backyard usually just cuts them up into cubes, then makes a hole straight through and puts his clones inside, then places the cube in a pot and covers with soil. Like others said here, the aloe will promote root development

Again, I haven't tried it myself, just know that's how my friend uses it

I puree some up and dump it through my soilless mix every couple weeks to aid in even wetting of the media.

I did this for years and had great success with clones and young plants.

It makes my hair shiny and manageable.

Finally had a chance to sit down and split up all the pups and clean up the dead and dying leaves. So, the question is, do I throw leaves in the fridge or freezer until I am ready to use them?



I also split up an Aloe Night Sky plant.

FPJ - Fermented Plant Juice

Well, I decided to try something out tonight. I pulled 3 or 4 aloe leaves out of the freezer. I put 4 cups of RO water in the blender and added the leaves.
I let them sit for about 20 minutes in the water so they could thaw out a bit.



Then I blended them. And blended them and blended them.



Then I poured the juice through a strainer to get the big chunks out.



Rinsed the blender and poured the juice back in. I then poured it through a coffee filter to get the rest of the sediment out of it. (I use hydro halos for watering and didn't want them clogging up) the coffee filters clogged up pretty bad so it took 3 of them to run all the juice through.




I Then added the quart of juice to a quart of the well water I use to water. I watered each plant with about 2 cups of water to "prime the soil" if you will. After it sit for a few, I split the half gallon of aloe juice between the 3 plants. Here's hoping the soil and plants liked the aloe.

I started using it about a year ago as a wetting agent for my soil.


(Yes I kept the rind too)

Certain my portions were off but I have no clue whether it helped it but it surely didn't hurt anything.
