From Soil To Hydro

Hi All! Is it better to grow a plant(s) in soil first in order to determine sex, and then put the cuttings in hydro(DWC 2Gal containers)? Don't know if it would be wasted effort, nutrients etc on hydro'ing without knowing the ratio of male to female.

TAN.... it is not smartto actually transfer a plant from soil to hydr..

But you can start a plant in soill.. and take clones and then put those clones in hydro.. is that what you ment?

Transferig mediums, in general, is a bad idea.... roots develop the best method for absorbing ntrients in the medium that they grow up in... if you switch mediums, it can often kill or put a plant into sveer shock.. because it can nt absorb the NUTRIENTS it needs.... IF you look at the roots of a plant that is grown aeroponically... under a fine mist.. yo will see the roots are difeerent than the roots you see in soil plants..

cheers

I suppose the title was somewhat ambiguous. Yes, was wondering if it was a good idea to go from soil to hydro in early phase (plants that are less than a week old).

Or is it best to let them flower and see which are females and put the cuttings from the females in the hydro.

I have transplanted a tomato plant from soil to hydro and it is doing fine. Roots do look a bit different.

Soil to hydro isn't really a option because the plant roots tend to fuse into the soil and its hard to flush or get all the soil out before transfering them into hydro so thats almost impossible.

However you can go hydro to soil. Just make sure you follow the rule of all the roots when being transfered into soil is covered.

I do hydro to soil transfer to all my mothers because it will cut me some time because of hydro excellerated growth. I'd grow my seedlings in 6x6x6 rockwool cubes until roots "BURST" out the bottom and then i'll transfer them to soil to keep them as momma's(least mentaince and if power goes out you don't lose any plants because soil is alot more forgiving). When i do this i get alot extra clones because i need them for my SOG style grow.
