Fungus gnat experiment #569

I have a large box fan set on high. The plants get a little wind beat and I havent had PM or Botrytis in several years. The gnats..... these fkrs here will crawl in and up the container holding on for life till they get on the soil. Yes, its rough flying, but they have nothing but time. Ive found that Pantyhose over the bottom holes and bottom watering is the best way ive tried. Spraying H202 solution on the topsoil once a week( thanks to @Budzbuddha for that tip) seems to keep them from doing much damage. Im going to pay up and buy some Gnatrol.
Spraying h2o2 is great, when using bottled nutes. Organic, dry amendments, not so much.

Im not sure if you guys are aware, but if you have fungus gnats, in soil, chances are you're watering way too much.
I hear ya. For many folks this would be the reason. But, i dont usually water until the pot is light and the topsoil very dry. I even bottom water and the fkrs still persist. I swear, the fungus gnats here are tough and resistant as hell. I live in an agricultural and animal farming region. Fungus gnats have exploded over the last few years. But, you are correct in that overwatering is a big reason. Especially for newbies. I have waited to water till my plants wilted numerous times and they came right back. Most of us on this thread have fought them through extraordinary circumstances.

Yea ive definitely dealt with the frustration of gnats. I've prolly had a couple thousand in my tent, on just one grow. I've not had them for quite a while though. Even in my sip, which is constantly saturated. My other containers get watered daily, but they dry out daily, so I don't get them in those containers either. I guess i just don't keep the soil moist enough for them.

Awesome, another fellow boxfan user! lol I thought I was the only one. They work way better than pedestal fans space wise. You already know I put them boxfans above bar lights lol.

I learned something new about Gnatrol: It has a shelf life. Mine was sitting on a shelf unused for about 3 years. It no longer seems to work. I thought to run a search, and found it does indeed get old and stops working.

I'll be using nematodes next.

I grow in coco so I don't have the problem of bringing them home in new soil which is unavoidable, if I get them it's because they've got into my grow, my inlets are filtered with pre filters so unless I introduce them I've few concerns.

If that wasn't the case I'd get/make those thing @FmSwayze posted.
They fit any plant in situ they're easy as to make you'd only need to sew drawstrings into a paint bag filter type thing....alternatively you could just buy them lol

They're already proven to be effective and they're working for you all of the time!

Edit...Ah ok I see it now, that's a pot, ok I meant just the mesh bit with drawstrings top and bottom that'd fit any pot/plant?
