Fungus gnat?

I'd have to say yes to fungus gnat. Hard to be 100% without an idea of size, but it looks like one to me. Get some dietomaceous earth and sprinkle along the top of the soil.

Erm... food grade DE specifically. The pool grade is supposedly not ok, and I wouldn't even think of adding pesticide grade DE, who knows if there's chemicals etc in that stuff.

I've personally used pool grade in the past without problems, but I could have just been lucky. Safest bet is to stick to food grade.

Thanks guys I'm controlling it using yellow sticky cards, 1/5 peroxide watering, and sticky silver fly traps. I have encountered a new problem someone threw a towel over my plants (dumbass) to cover them up and they look very bad I'm very concerned here's a pic

if you don't also kill the larvae you will never get rid of them

they reproduce too fast

do what your doing but also get some

gnatrol is super easy and works 100% of the time

dose your medium 1x per week for 3 weeks

if you don't itll just carry over to your next grow

In hydro
I use peroxide on the regular

it doesn't do anything for larvae and itll ruin your soil

one day youll get tired of chasing the gnats and get the gnatrol ...lol

you can also use liquid BMC (biological misquito control)
which is the same as gnatrol but in a liquid form
if you ever grow in hydro

At first I was debating hydro but it seems too complicated plus I don't have too much time for this. I read somewhere that the peroxide watering was beneficial to the soil and kills larvae is this not true or what?

no
peroxide will kill all the microbes and beneficial bacteria that break down organic matter into nutrients for your plant

peroxide is a sterilizing agent...

if you had root disease and wanted to kill the pathogen causing the root rot you would use it

and then you would do all you could do to introduce beneficial bacteria back into your soil .....
in soil h202 is a last resort in soil for root rot only and hopefully always avoided

in hydro
the medium ...like rockwool for example... h202 works well to sterilze your reservoir so algea doesn't grow.. and it briefly adds oxygen to the water

but it takes a toll on your roots over time

If I had root rot I would try an enzyme before considering something like h202 in soil

cover the top layer of soil with an inch of horticulture sand
works everytime, sand is too dense and at an inch its too thick for them to get through it

DE is readily available and will kill the larvae AND adults quickly. Sticky traps catch some adults, but not all, and in the meantime they're reproducing like crazy. The adults are not the problem. The larvae will eat up your roots and can screw up your crop if left unchecked and allowed to get out of hand. You have to kill them at the source. Cover the soil with DE and your gnats will be but a distant memory. Gnatrol looks good too. I wasn't familiar with the product until I saw it suggested here. It has a type of bacteria that won't hurt you or your plants, but will kill the larvae quickly. Once they're dead, the adults will gradually die off or be caught by your sticky traps.

After a pretty bad infestation several years back, I now just mix DE into my soil before planting and I've never had a problem since.

Please take our advice and attack the problem at its source (larvae), or you will be fighting an uphill battle for the remainder of your crop's life.

Would the home depot or lowes have this DE?

I found pool grade at home depot and food grade on amazon. Again, I may have been lucky to not have any problems when i used pool grade. Others have warned against it.
