Fungus gnats.

I'm growing indoor in a soil based medium. What can I use as a spray for the soil. To repel them. If I let the soil dry out will that kill them? Someone suggested a spoonful of dish soap and cayenne pepper mixed with water?

I have always grown in soil, and when I first began I had the same problem. What I learned is that if you let the soil dry out A TAD, not bone dry, between waterings, this cuts down on fungus gnats by a considerable amount. I always have 1 or two every once in awhile, but I don't mind. Also, do not go on a rampage killing bugs. These little creatures perform biological actions that only help your grow. If you see little bugs crawling around, but not completely infesting, it is a good thing.

Alright. Thank you for the info. I just don't want them getting out of control and there was a considerable amount more then yesterday. I took a fork and ran it gently through the top layer of soil around each plant, not getting to close in each container.

bugs in my house isn't helping anything i am interested in helping. i put up fly paper near the plants, the few i have inside. i don't want plants in the house either. don't over water as was mentioned. you can wrap around the base of the plants after watering. they lay their eggs in the soil and if they are wrapped they will be stuck in there when they grow wings. if you want to get rid of them, move the plants outside. they also live in drains and are pretty disgusting creatures, can spread illnesses, infest food as well as drains and plants. what i do is get a big pot of water boiling, meanwhile pour some baking soda down your drains followed by some vinegar. let that sit while the water gets up to boiling. then pour the water down each drain. do this every week until they are gone. you need to keep things really clean. don't leave fruit and vegs laying around or in trash. scrub counters and floors with ammonia and hot water. if you deprive them of food and water they will be gone and they aren't big eaters so even a crumb is a lot. each new generation gets faster so don't wait, get after them asap. i also found out they like beer, like what is left in the can after you drink it. so don't keep the empties inside, soda cans either. banana peels, apple cores, etc., GET RID OF IT ALL!! once they fully infest it is hell to rid a house of them. j

I let the soil dry out most of the way not completely, took a fork and ran it through the top layer of soil and it did the trick, came down the next morning and they gone. So thank you Curtis

Mosquito Dunks. Break up a quarter in a gallon of water and let soak over night. Feed with your nutes/ pHd water.. whatever.
A couple feedings of this over a week cleared me up good of the young.. I used Bonide's Deadbug in a diluted amount to spray the top soil (soaked). That kept the older ones from coming back and obviously the ones within the topsoil.

No problem. Just keep in mind, we are growing an actual weed that grows in most of earth's ecosystems. Those little bugs you see every once in awhile are no match for the mighty cannabis plant. I have NEVER used any type of neem oil or any type of "kill zap em dead" product of any sort. Heck I have never even had a hermie. Just keep it simple my friend.

gnatrol is by far the best in my experience i also like a pyrthyrin bomb at the same time as the first gnatroll dose

I put gnatnix on top of my soil, I then watered from the bottom by filling the saucers up. the plants love it and the gnats went away.
