It has to do with the confluence of the Ohio and Mississppi, coupled with the TN and Cumberland Rivers nearby. Their terminal points (except for the Mississippi obviously) are within miles of each other. The topography of the end of the Great Plains meets the east, with the southern Mississippi Delta kissing the south and the Ozarks to the southwest. It's a perfect storm for weather extremes. Same latitude roughly as Santa Cruz, CA, BTW.
I feel like I just got done watching a documentary on TWC:lol:
