Gelato auto in a bathtub

These were started on 26 Apr 21 and look to be doing well as they transition to flowering. I’m really constrained height-wise in my tub, so lots of LST to keep the canopy low and even. I’m using shelf brackets to extend the stalks with multiple colas beyond the perimeter of the airpots in which I’m growing.

I’m expecting delivery of a 6 fixture T5 light, that will hang horizontally at the front of the tub opening, pointing in at the plants. The 4 fixture T5 light I have there now will move to the back of the tub enclosure, also pointing inward toward the plants. I have a Marshydro TSL2000 above them (at roughly 20 inches separation) aiming straight downward, and a pair of Phlizon 1200 watt lights at the ends of the TSL 2000, pointed inward at the plants at roughly a 45 degree angle. I don’t think I can squeeze any more photons in there.

I've used the shelf brackets before to widen the canopy and it worked well, but eventually, too many shelf brackets make it impossible to rotate the plants to evenly catch light, hence the lighting scheme. Each part of each plant will get direct light from at least one of the fiveView attachment 4910338View attachment 4910339 lights above the tub. Right now, the airpots are sitting on plastic milk crates, and if I get more vertical growth than I can manage, they will move to sit on the bottom of the tub which will give an additional 11 inches of headroom.

this is in a bathroom on the top floor of my house and it is tough to control the temps, so the whole operation is moving to a ground floor bathroom today...I’ll document the assembly and relocation later today.

Cool beans. This is at the end of one of the shelf brackets...there are 7

cool beans, it really let me extend the growth horizontally, aNd the colas that developed within the perimeter of the pot grew really well since they were not shaded by a vertical dominant cola. In the first photo below, the plant in the back was part of the same grow as the other three. It was a runt at first, but caught up eventually. About 3 weeks ago it started growing single leaves rather than branches with 3/5/7/9. It is an auto so prolly not a reveg, just some messed up genetics.

it was in the same size airpot as the other three. I just repotted it into a 5 gallon fabric bag; the rootball was pretty solid, and I had about 2 inches all the way around the pot to fill. I filled the void with Happy Frog, with some earthworm castings and bat guano. Since I have it splayed out pretty aggressively, I can now see the stalk, and have access to the soil to add some top dressings along the way. I’m gonna pound it with the Fox Farms week 12 feeding schedule for a bit and see what it does...it’s growing some whispy colas, but they are hardening up I think, and more of them are exposed to direct sun. i think it’ll be a pretty good finisher...

will do this on my next grow

Made the big chop yesterday, trichomes were cloudy. Have just under 3 lbs wet in the drying rack. Normally I’d have hung the entire plant for a couple days, but the colas were so thick and densely packed I chopped them down to branch size to avoid mold.

I’m Going to try some C-Vault stainless steel containers for the cure and storage; anxious to see how they work.

One of the neat ways to close out a grow is to harvest the soil from a root ball. These were grown in airpots; I find a spot in the garden in which I want to plant something and partially wash down the root balls. I then dig a hole the size of the plant I want to put in, put the partially washed out rootball in it, fill it with water and let it soak a couple days. I live in an area with an abundance of clay, and this works magically.

I’m gonna hang the stalks from a tree in my yard, and if they dry out well, I’m gonna make some wind chimes...

I grew weary of opening a Bunch of mason jars multiple times a day while curing, so got a couple C-Vaults for storage. There is a compartment on the underside of the top for a 62% Boveda pack, which was included in the purchase price. We’ll see how this goes.

this is 8 oz, mostly dried, of Gelato Auto from 3 plants. Not a huge yield, but enuff to last for a while. I’ve sampled some of it, a little before it’s time - still has a chlorophyll/hay taste, but does get me stoned...
