Does the seed age affect germination ? I followed a tut online that said you can either germinate is a bowl of water or using wet tissue. I tried the bowl method and not even a peep. half the seeds floated the other half sank. The seeds are a few years old. So do I need fresh seeds ? :confused:

You can germinate seeds directly into potting/soilless mix too. If they are more than a few years old then they could stand to be soaked in water for just a few hours or so, as after a few years the cells of the embryo inside the seed begin to dry out. If it was stored somewhere dry, dark and relatively cool then the seeds should mostly still be viable.

Couple years old isn't good. No. Depends on storage. I usually soak my seeds too but it's not necessary - they'll sprout in soil as well. You should see them open a bit if left in a cup of water for any length of time if they're viable. GL - hate to see seeds not turn into plants. :{
