Germinated Seeds Outdoors

Hey, I currently have a little shoebox grow set up that sprouts the plants until the second week which then I in transplant the plants outdoors.

I am wondering, if I could skip this option, and put the germinated seeds straight outdoors. With good soil and waterings would they survive and thrive? Temps are lowest at night in the 50's.

looks like we're in the same boat, i just posted a thread a couple of days ago asking the same question... no replies tho :-|. Hopefully we get a knowledgeable reply but if not then im just gonna put them in small pots after they germinate, after that ill place them outside but in a propagator http://www.thegardensuperstore.co.uk/acatalog/info_1006.html. They come with a heating mat to keep the plants warm during those cool nights and have a decent ventilation system. When they grow too big for the case then ill transplant them in the ground. Ive never tried this before nor am i an expert so i hope this works lol

That's a great idea, but where would you plug it in outdoors? I also hope someone replies.

I havent been able to find any online but ive heard they also come battery powered. Checked home depot the other day and they had it battery powered but the cover was too short. Gonna try the local hydro store this week really hope they have it.

Well, I can tell you this. My Pakistan Ryder is 3 days from seed and has spent its entire life outdoors in the Texas sun. I germined her inside under a big ass 250 watt CFL. As soon as she broke ground, she was taken outside and she has not come back in. She looks happy so far for 3 days. The temps have been a steady 80-85 during peak hours and lows in the 70s. Keep her well hydrated and provide plenty of light, she will take off. Also try to keep the roots cool by burying the pot underground.

Here is a pic of my baby PR @ day 3:

Yes you can and they're actually more hearty then if you start them outside. What I do is soak my potting soil real good, let it drain for a minute, then I soak the seeds for 10 min. Sow it a half inch deep and put them in a nice sunny spot. In 3-5 days they'll pop.

Starting them inside simply allows you to get a hard start a month or two early, but then you have to gradually put them outside so you don't shock them with the temp. and light change.

Its even common for people do what is called "winter sowing" where you sow them in december or january, way ahead of the season and just wait for them to come out on their own in the spring. Downside to this is germinate rate goes from 98% to 85%. Because cannabis seeds are so expensive, this method isn't as popular. But with regular veggies and flowers its actually a big time saver.

The only issue I ever had with doing it outside is that sometimes field mice (or possibly my cat, not sure) eat the seedlings. But once they're 2 weeks old they're pretty safe. Unless you have deer or wild animals roaming around.
