germination problems

so i got some seeds from a friend and decided to germinate like 5 in a waterbottle. I waited like 5 day and ones roots sprouted. So i planted that one and waited for the others. THe one that i planted somehow sprouted under the soil and died. All the other seeds didnt even sprout after i planted them. Im pretty sure these are good seeds because my friend germinated several and apparantly they are growing fine. Ive used the waterbotle technique before and its worked so i dont know whats up. Last time i germinated seeds, the roots came out in about 3 days and the plants sprouted from the ground in like 2 days. Any ideas?

sounds like it was way to wet. I soak in water for 24 hours then put them in a wet paper towel inside a ziplock bag. I leave it on the cable box for 24-48 hours and BAM sprouts. The cable box seems to provide just the right amount of heat.
