Good Strains For CFLs

Are there any certain strains that do well under CFL's? I've been wanting to try some WW, white russian, ak47, satori and mango(If anyone has any suggestions of some potent head high strain that gives the giggles and finishes in under 11 weeks flowering that would be great). Also if previous growers with CFLs could post what thier harvests were and how many watts they used. Also on a side note I just read 8 oz. for under $100 and its an awesome book for CFL growers.

I just put 2 AK-47's into the flowering room under cfls about 3 days ago. They are about they are 13inches tall right now. I hope to hear that they are good producers under cfls also.

I definitely recommend 100% indica. They grow shorter... sativas and dominant sativa crosses grow too tall for the closet.

I thought Northern Lights would grow too tall. Most of the ones that i have seen, seem to grow to tall for the room that i have. I have just at 4ft of height in my flowering area.

Depend on how tall yur closet is? I grew 4 footers with 1 42 watt cfl at top, and 4 26 W all around the middle- tops of each plant. I would think a good strain for a cfl would have to have atleast two things. One being it not be too tall, like a haze, thai, or durban. Stay away from pure sativas, nothing more that skunk or s. cough which is 75% sativa. But more importantly, you want a strain that would give you heavy yields in the first place. Everybody knows Cfls cut down yield big time, so that just be priority 1! So if you want to play it safe, go with Kush, papaya, shiva, skunk, NL. But AK is what you really need. Powerful sativa high, heavy yields, easy to grow, and not too tall!!!

Thanks for the info. I will just stick with the AK's then and see what happens. Thanks again.

i've been growing bc sweet tooth under 12 42w cfl's. the plants showed excellent vigor and vegatative growth.. i put them on a 12 hr day 12 hr night regimen about 4 wks ago and they are doing great.. bc sweet tooth is a 90% indica, 10% sativa. i would suggest if you want a heavy yielder that doesn't get too tall and is easy to grow you should go with sweetooth... plus it taste like candy and it hits you in the head with a powerful medicinal high.... great for inducing sleep, ailing pain, and the girls love it cause it tastes soooooo good!! good luck bossman... best you could do is just experiment.. there are so many strains out there there's is bound to be a perfect one out there for your needs and accomodations... try to stay away from too many sativa or sativa dominant strains until you get a better lighting system.. it can be done it's just a big headache.. most indicas or afghani's hell there's even ruderalis crosses out there that would be divine like lowryder, or lowryder #2... hope i helped any... one love- minniskid

northern lights is a great strain for beginners.. as far as cfls go though there arent to my knowledge any strains that grow better with cfls .. cfls generally produce low quality buds with any strain...

mostly sativa plants react well to the cfl lights i dont know why but every indica ive tried to grow has been unsuccessful under cfls, way too many problems, my first plant is a sativa and is 3 ft tall, under 4 26w cfls. it is flowering day 27.

I don't think low quality as much as just less! I've grown bud from a bagseed of killer nug. The bud was smaller than the original, but tasted better and was just as if not more potent! Honest!

Thats strange? I know the Indicas have those broader, greener leafs to suck up the sun. Maybe CFL's can't provide what they need? I don't know?

This is just your luck... I've got one of each and both of them are just fine under CFL.

I just orderd master Kush thinking the shorter plants and broader leaves would be great for cfl's. I am going to try the traveling thai next. Reading that sativa does well under cfl's gives me hope for the thai.

I have 3 shiva skunks growing. I've been vegging them for almost 3 weeks now. I'm going to start flowering in a couple weeks. I have 2 40W 6500k flouresent tubes, and 6 26W 6500k cfl's surrounding the plants. Since switching to the tubes and cfl's, the SS's have gotten bushy and are thriving. I think the key with cfl'sand flouresent tubes is to use the right light spectrum. 6500k is full spectrum light and is necessary for flowering. You can use 5000k to veg,but you might as well start with 6500k. Also, key the lights close to the leaves, maybe an inch and a half to 2 inches so the light can penetrate through. The more light, the better.

I got mine at a well known online bookseller. It's a nice resource to have onhand.

As far as strains go, any short strain should work. Most short varieties are indica or ruderalis. I doubt Northern Lights would grow any taller than Mango.
